Permalink G&L Doheny fixes

So, virtually every review out there says that the G&L Doheny has great playing characteristics but every one that I hear (in person and with my limited experience playing a couple in a shop) sounds like it is pretty hard to easily get the surf characteristics that so many of us love out of a jazzmaster or jag. Love the feel, though. Given that the bridge and tremolo stuff is somewhat more stable on the g&L I get it, so that leaves the pickups (any discussion on other factors is welcomed, although I already get the scale difference between a jazz and jag) Thoughts?

I don't have experience with the Doheny type pickups but I can tell you that G&L strat sized MFDs are awesome. Combined with their PTB tone circuit and considering the adjustability of the individual poles, they provide quite a flexible palette of sounds.

You can hear a sample of G&L pickups in the demo I posted in my NGD Skyhawk thread a while back in the gear section.

I also think any pickup running through a reverb tank into a Fender amp is going to sound surfy, though...
