Mrs. Dobronyi, aka Karen from Frankie & the Pool Boys and Meshugga Beach Party, wanted to enter a contest sponsored by her favorite composer, Carole King. Only rule for the contest was that you have to perform a song written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King, so there were plenty to choose from. We didn't want to do any of the obvious choices so I dug deep and found this little gem. There are versions by Bobby Lee, Peggy Lipton and a few others, but it doesn't seem to have had any chart success. Though written in 1964, the themes of being away from the ones you love resonates today.
Anyway... that's Dusty Watson (in corona CA) on drums and honorary Pool Girl Kayla Fowler (in Queens, NYC) on vocals. I'm really happy with the way the recording came out, considering the distances.
I hope you enjoy it! - Ferenc

I thought that was wonderful. I saw 4 very creative people use their talent and blend so well together. I do believe they all smiled at the finished product. WELL DONE!

Thanks for listening!

Well, it's getting kind of boring around here! Another question– why the beard, for which I have no answer, and it's gone now.

Cool

Carole King had a number two hit with It Might As Well Rain Until September in the UK in 1962, by the way.

Los Fantasticos

I love that song! So 60's! Good job and good luck!

One of the versions I heard was by Helen Shapiro, a young (14) singer from England. Her version was AMAZING! I can't believe how mature her voice was.

I don't think the song really did anything in the US. The song was even included in the list that Goffin/King made available-- maybe they forgot about it.

Helen Shapiro had an amazing voice. Is she not well known in the USA?

According to Wikipedia, Carole King’s version made it to number 22 in the States.

Los Fantasticos

I used to love Helen Shapiro as kid but the song I most remember her by is Walking Back to Happiness. In any case I really like Kayla's vocal together with her visual delivery on 'September. It's a brilliant performance by everyone and very enjoyable to watch.
