In honor of today’s PotD...

I missed these guys version first time around (13 years ago!!) only familiar with The Surfrajettes more recent cover. I do love theirs, but gotta say, I’m a little more inspired by the Monsters from Mars take - a bit more surfy reverb and fitting their name, a nice spooky/space vibe going on.

What say you? Which do you prefer?

PS: Sorry, for some reason the live Monsters from Mars version from 2006 won’t embed. Direct link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXc5--GneaQ

Embedded another ver from 2010 which is a better audio recording, albeit a still image not actual video.

For reference, ‘cause PotD, well, changes daily... post inspired by:

Wow. 120 views and nary a comment.

Dead Thread

Guess the title was a premonition and I didn’t even know it.

I can imagine Monsters from Mars image is probably a put off to some around here, or at least an easy jab for anyone doing Surf music. In fact, that was part of my motivation... challenge the assumptions, ‘cause, well, I was a bit put off by the image the very first time I saw their PotD several years ago, but I leaned in and checked out some music. They’re pretty cool in my book.

Perhaps the comment aversion is the risk of sounding critical of the Surfrajettes. Idunno. Whatever

I hadn't heard either of these. They both sound pretty good but I prefer the Monsters from Mars version.

The Dead Planet Surfers

I like the old one!

I had seen Monsters from Nars a few times in San Diego area in the early 2000s. I Miss them, great fun.

I like their version of Toxic better.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

I listened to both and they’re great...love the simplicity and vintage vibe of the surfrajettes...

I had no idea at all about The Monsters From Mars version. I dig it a lot. I think it's been brought up each time they are POTD - does anyone know anything about them? Wikipedia says they're still active - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monsters_from_Mars

No right or wrong answers on this stuff; I always enjoy this community most when we are having conversation about the music we share a love for.

Thanks for taking the bait and playing along, gang!
