It seems many of yall -all over the world- are cranking out your new releases on vinyl... which is very cool. From the new LHD 7 inches coming out, to the Satan's Pilgrim's Christmas album, everybody's doin it. But how? I mean, it seems the options for vinyl production are very limited (United?), and the costs are large. 100 pieces are around $1,600-$2,200 from my research.
Who are you using for production? Will any places out there do 50 pieces? Is it just another lost-leader activity that's just too cool to resist - meaning can it be done economically? Obviously, if you sell them all for $25 a pop it works...
Thanks.

The cheapest we find to press our "Lost Mission" LP was Rainbo Records, I think we spent around 1800$ for 250 (which is too much for a band like us, we still have a good portion left). They do 100 but the cost per piece was too high, so we decided to go with 250. We lost money on this, but it's balanced by CD sales and bills from shows to break even.
An option for short quantities is lathe cut vinyls (i.e. made by hand one by one). We have 50 Christmas 7" being pressed at the moment by Tangible Formats (https://www.tangibleformats.com/), the quality is supposed to be equal to pressed records. We'll have them in two weeks, and prices are affordable. There really is a market for producing short quantities of records, too bad there are so little options.

The more you make, the more the price goes down. Watch for specials and sales. The last single we did on our own label was done on a special from Pirate's Press. Of course, if you have a full lps worth of songs, you can do it for not much more than a single. You can also make up the cost by getting a single hosted on as many platforms as possible. People are pretty willing to throw a few dollars at downloads.
But you also got to sell them at live shows.
