Thank you

It was an epic day at the pier, yesterday. Every band was great. The weather was perfect- not too hot, with a nice breeze blowing off the ocean all day. The event was very well attended. The Curl Riders played a nice set of trad surf, with some terrific originals. The Tiki-Creeps followed with an intense set of not-your grandfather's surf. I like their many originals, their use of the theremin, and the wide ranging dynamics in many of their songs. Tikiyaki 5-0 was up next with exotic, yet intense stylings of surf meets exotica, and so much more. I don't know of any bands with more talent than Tikiyaki 5-0. Absolutely sublime. Up next were the Glasgow Tiki Shakers, and, as always, they blew the doors down, with their powerful, dynamic, impeccably played originals. They opened with a sizzling "Velvet Surf" (one of my all time favorite instrumental songs), and went through a lot of great original tunes, off of their incredible, most recent CD, Blue Transporter. A+. Jetpack rocked the house, next. I've enjoyed their album for a long time. but I had never seen them. Jetpack did not disappoint! Jennifer's sax playing added a nice change of pace to the days guitar-centric performances. The Insect Surfers turned in an absolutely blistering set of their totally unique blind of surf, psychedelia, and waaaaaaaaay beyond. David Arson and Marty Tippens were on fire, and it would be hard to find a more powerful rhythm section than Jonpaul Balak and Chris Roberts. I can never get enough of the Insects, and look forward to seeing their sets during the Convention weekend in less than two weeks. Don't miss them, then. They have a few surprises in store that will be "can't miss" performances. If I told you wwhat, I'd be sent to Guantanamo, for "debriefing", so you'll have to catch them at the Convention, AND at Surfdogs, the next day, to find out. Hope to see all of you there!
