Although I'm a surf nut and I do own a Jaguar and a '63 tank, this is a surf moment at a gig by my rock trio. As such, I'm playing a PRS Vela through a DV Mark solid state amp and Strymon pedals. I've really grown to love the Vela and would suggest it makes a pretty good surf guitar (Don't throw things). You'll notice that mine looks about as surfy as a PRS can get and has no birds.

Sweet version!

And here's the thing: it's really not even a surf song. They originally called it "Liberty's Whip" after the western movie "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance."

So your sort of cowboy drum beat is spot on. And I don't think the Chantays used a particularly surfy guitar for the lead themselves.

Nice job! Really great to see you post again!

I like it!! Were your amps mic'd up or did you guys play straight through the PA?

@Brian - Nice to see you and be here again - also glad SG101 is still going strong. I still take a keen interest in all things Surf and very now and then we talk about reviving The Pashuns.

@SixStringSurfer: We're using amps but they aren't mic'd up - the recording is just off the camcorder mic. I'm using a DvMark GH250 amp with a Celestion Redback 1x12 cab. Strymon Flint Reverb.

Wrong gear? I often leave my Fender stuff at home and take a Les Paul and Marshall, they surf just fine! Nice playing!
