Permalink Hum cancel jazzmaster Novak phase issues

Hello i got some novak hum cancel jazzmaster pups but for some reason the neck pickup has an out of phase Peter Green sound. The Bridge is fine.
Not sure what would cause this?

Is this what you have? Looks like they could have been wired out of phase from the factory. This picture is from curtisnovak.com. If you have access to the individual coil wires, you could put it back in phase (RWRP).

If I'd stop buying old guitars to fix, I might actually learn to play.

Assuming the pickup you have is like the one I pictured, it's a humbucking pickup with two coils. You need to be able to get to the 4 wires that come off the two coils. If you can get to those wires, report back here, and I'll tell you how to fix it.

Magnets reversed?

That's a good question. Actually, if all magnets have the same orientation, and the windings of the two coils are opposite directions, then the pickup will be noise cancelling and out of phase. The solution is to reverse the magnets in one of the coils. This will work as long as the winding is around a bobbin and not around the magnets themselves.
