Just heard The Father of Loud has fallen asleep until the last trumpet. I’m sure he will judged favorably for all the positivity his music spread throughout the world. Αιώνια η μνήμη! вечная память! Memory Eternal!

Squink Out!

I saw Dick Dale twice, and spoke to him once after his show. What struck me was that he was very down-to-earth. He enjoyed interacting with his fans, and I think he fed off of it.

I handed him a copy of our CD and he took it, and said they like to listen to new stuff in the van on the road. He had a positive energy and encouraged musicians to keep playing.

A true entertainer, innovator and inspiration to so many. He will truly be missed.

New Dick Dale clip from the Sound of the Surf documentary:

I watched Dick Dale play on the pier in Santa Monica. He was amazing. I don't know for sure, but I think he might have been in pain a lot while traveling, but he pretty much kept playing shows as long as he could. I hope he is in a better place now. I asked him once about his tone and he wrote me this very technical and detailed answer; I'll look for that and share it later in case you guys are interested. God bless Dick Dale.

I feel sad for Dick Dale's family but man 82 years is a long run.
I'm choosing to celebrate Dick Dale's life and play some surf guitar.
He did a lot!

RIP DD. Experienced a Dick Dale show in 2004 in Amsterdam. Keep playing his songs to remember this surf music icon for all the years to come.

I'd definitely be interested in reading that!

Deal with reality, or reality will deal with you.

Just returned from 6 days in Baja. Little or no Wi-Fi and it was nice to be away from social media for almost a week! However, I did see the announcement of the passing of Dick Dale. I would often poke fun at his quirky personality but I am convinced that without him and that very confident demeanor that surf music, as we know it, would not exist. A true pioneer in the genre and probably never getting the proper respect he deserves.

I’m covering for a DJ today at KCR – www.kcrlive.com – from 10 am – 2pm PDT. I’ll be playing lots of my “NON-instrumental” favorites (with actual singing!) Then I’m doing my regular “Instros Only” show from 2-4pm. So I'm on air from 10am - 4pm PDT.

I’ll be playing numerous Dick Dale songs during both shows. So listen in… should be fun!

Not much to add. I'm sorry that I missed seeing him the last time he came through town.

RIP Dick Dale

Remembering Dick Dale, who died on this date one year ago. I took this photo on his yacht, anchored in Newport Beach back in November, 2007. Stan Ross (who died in March, 2011), co-owner of Goldstar Studios, asked me to have this guitar signed by Dick. The guitar was a donation to Stan's grandson's (if I recall the relationship correctly) school in Orange County for a benefit they were having.

Dick Dale: gone but never forgotten.
