I collect and listen to all kinds of instrumental music genres since the mid 90s. There's so much good instrumental music to enjoy. Some examples follow. For rock/metal you can't go wrong with Joe Satriani, Tony MacAlpine, Vinnie Moore, or Joe Stump. Spacesynth was popular in the 80s, listen to Laserdance, Koto or Cyber People. Famous pop orchestral music bands are James Last or Bert Kaempfert. There's a lot of classical/pop crossover like Bond, Rondo Veneziano, Lindsey Stirling, Vanessa Mae, 2Cellos, or Apocalyptica. Try Jean-Michel Jarre (especially the Oxygène or Équinoxe albums), Vangelis, Synergy/Larry Fast, or Art of Noise for electronic music. For spacy psychedelic progrock my favorite are the Ozric Tentacles. Synthwave is a new electronic music genre influenced by 1980s film soundtracks and video games, be sure to check out Sung, Carpenter Brut or Perturbator.

Big fan of synthwave music, was at this concert in 2018 in Amsterdam, offical video footage below:

Here’s a couple of my favorites in the post-rock/post-metal vein.

Joe Stump is great.
Spacelords are cool.
Shawn Lane with Jonas Hellborg and Jeff Sipe is incredible.

Jonas Hellborg has an album called "Kali's Son" that is one of my favorite albums of all time.

Allan Holdsworth is probably my favorite guitarist- All Night Wrong and Blues For Tony are two amazing live albums.

Deal with reality, or reality will deal with you.

Guitarist Glenn Jones has been prolific as a solo artist for the passed fifteen years but I'm still a big fan of his old band Cul De Sac:
