I'm thinking of adding a keys player to the group. But id like to hear some examples of it being used in the genre before I make a decision. Thanks in advance

The first that come to my mind are the Bomboras (Head Shrinkin Fun album) and the Ghastly Ones (Unearthed album). And Satan's Pilgrims too : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1wgyXoatqk —Yannick Lead Guitar in Blackball Bandits : https://blackballbandits.bandcamp.com/ |

It’s good! But it can fight with your guitar freqs. This new band Mummula has a killer organ player on certain tracks. No links because I’m lazy. —Daniel Deathtide Last edited: Jan 11, 2019 16:06:37 |

I use virtual combo organ in a lot of my songs (and a Hammond as well) and I love the extra dimension it brings. I say go for it. |

Laika and the Cosmonauts. Checkout "Laika Sex Machine" for a killer live album. —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

I love the sound of a Hammond B3, but can't say that I've heard it much, if at all, in surf. Seems like most of the surf bands, using organs, work with Farfisa and Vox Continental sounds for more of that 60's garage and psychedelic sound. I think it would be cool to integrate Hammond B3 into surf tunes. —Bob |

Thanks for posting that. Ours was actually a Hammond M3, the smaller cousin of the B3, though it still takes 4 of us to move it. M3 was what was used by Booker T & the MGs on the early stuff and by the Fabulous Wailers in the 60s. —http://www.satanspilgrims.com |

The GT Stringer keyboardist used a b3 soundalike Crumar but they also had a sax and were not trad surf. Lot's of examples of modern era surf bands using keys, not so much in the 60's. —Peter http://www.youtube.com/user/jenipete |

Forgive my layperson reference, I am not versed enough to know much more than awareness of names like Fender Rhodes and Hammond, but you can find lots of ‘keys’ in The Coffin Daggers. —Fady El Mirage @ ReverbNation |

We love keys and use frequently. We used a B3 on the second "verse" of this tune ...as well as a Cry Baby which you don't hear on surf tunes, but thought it provided the perfect bird voice: —Shoot the Pier on Bandcamp My Country EP ... SurferBill, your stuff is really great. I envy your in-house keyboard player! She really brings homes the bacon. |
