I had originally thought that I would sell this Jaguar I picked up and listed it. There were a few minor issues with the guitar but I figured whoever the next owner would be could fix it since it was a pretty good deal. However, after about a week, since there were no interested parties, I decided that I would just keep it and see if I could figure out what was wrong.

All the electronics are original and I was a little uneasy about working on a vintage guitar. I found that the bottom pickup selector switch wasn't functioning properly and was worried that the guy who put it back together had wired it up wrong (the switch was also upside-down) But upon checking it out, it was all wired correctly. So I thought the switch was bad, but wanted to be sure. So, I took off the tail-piece and discovered the ground wasn't even hooked up. Fixed it, but the switch still didn't work properly. Checked out all the other wires and discovered underneath that one of the grounds to the shielding wasn't attached. Re-soldered it, and that fixed everything. Threw it all back together after flipping the neck pickup the way it should have been, put on a mute assembly and tilted the neck.

Now it works/looks as it should. No noise, all switches work correctly and I am happy I kept it.

Nice job resurrecting a beautiful guitar to player status for you.

Especially the offsets, troubleshooting those little physical-layer wiring glitches can make a guy beat his head against the wall. Lots going on and not alot of room to work with and the wiring, especially in the switches themselves, needs to be really done neatly, insulation right up to the connection point to avoid cross-over grounding, etc.

You done good! And it's gorgeous; love the lines of a swoopy trem arm.
Cool

Thanks guys. I've been doing lots of work on my own builds and such. But wiring Squiers and my builds is much different than doing a vintage guitar. I think I was just lucky it was simple. I was worried the original owner switched wires and stuff. Jags are definitely much more complex than any other Fender guitar because of all of the switches and such and thus take a little more time to figure out.
