Permalink Jaguar valuation prior to selling

New Topic

Hi All
I am looking for some impartial advice regarding the possible value of my Jag before I advertise it for sale.
I reckon you guys are probably going to have a much better idea than most!
The guitar is an AVRI 62 reissue thin skin in sonic blue with matching headstock, all original apart from the staytrem which I installed. Excellent condition apart from one ding on the body above the trem plate, it is visible but the paint did not come off of the body so you need to look closely to see it.Comes in the original G and G Vintage case with some of the candy. The neckplate is stamped SE 04771.I bought it brand new approximately 8 years ago. I have not played it for about 2 years and it seems wasted sat in the case behind the sofa. I live in England.
I will put it in the for sale forum at some point but would really appreci ate some advice on what I can reasonably expect for the guitar.
Regards
Nigel.

Since you are in England, are you planning to sell it there or also advertise to people in Europe or the US? If you hope to sell it to someone in another country, shipping costs have to be factored in. It's hard to say what you could expect in England, but a good place to start is to search ebay for completed sales of similar guitars. Reverb.com would show what people are asking but not necessarily what they sell for.

My preference would be to sell in the UK as I have no knowledge of shipping protocol.
I have looked on ebay and there appears to only be one completed sale of this exact model, this gives me an idea of value but it could easily be misleading.

That's a great color!

I've had my eyes on a few thin skin Jags over the past year or so, and they all seem to be in the $1800 USD asking range... but as stated above, that's not necessarily the selling price. This includes the one that is on Reverb.com at this time.

If I had that guitar, I would start at $2000 USD and see where it goes, unless you HAVE to sell it right away and will take a much lower price. Which, if you do, hit me up Smile

The Thin-Skins are maybe the most coveted series for 2nd hand in the last decade. While new they were sold (US prices) for $1600, you can easily add at least 25% to that. It will be snatched.
The Jazzmasters are going for the same prices, to help you evaluate.

Clearly there is demand in the US for that model. Shipping from the UK is pricey - could total £100-150 pounds. But having the case means you put the case in a box and pad it well. I had no trouble shipping an amp and a guitar body from London to the US in the summer, and didn't have to pay any customs charges.

There may be a problem selling it overseas because of the rosewood neck as well. I surely wouldn't risk it.

There are definitely concerns about the CITES restrictions on rosewood. It appears you need a permit to ship a guitar that has been sold from the UK to the US, though you don't need one for a non-commercial shipment (say you sent the guitar to be repaired or to be used in a performance) as long as the total rosewood in the shipment is below 10 kg. Shipping within the EU does not require a permit, but you'd have to do that before Brexit kicks in.
