Permalink Ground switch on Gomez G-Reverb

New Topic

I'm looking at a Gomez G-Reverb for sale and notice in the photo it has a ground switch. I haven't seen this on any of my other amps. How does one use this? I see articles suggesting taking an amp with this switch to a tech and having the cord replaced with one that is grounded and disabling the switch, but I can't imagine that is the case here.

Thanks,

I realize this is a naive question but I really can't find info on it. Sounds like you just pick the position which sounds best? Can anyone with a G-Reverb confirm that it already includes a modernized and safe power cable?

The Gomez is most definitely wired with a three prong, modern plug. The "ground" switch is actually a ground lift switch, which is different. I found this description online, and it says it better than I can.

"In some situations, it may be useful or become necessary to defeat a signal’s path to ground. For example, if your studio is plagued with ground loops, or noise issues, breaking a path to ground may solve the problem. Ground lift is a switch found on many pieces of audio equipment which disconnects audio signal ground from earth or chassis ground.

Using ground lift switches is considered to be far safer than the old “3-to-2 prong AC adapter” solution (which we heartily DON’T recommend. However, occasionally ground lift switching will not be as effective in resolving problems as the brute force AC adapter might be."

I hope that helps.

Yes, thanks! Knowing that term helps find out much more about the function. Sadly, I can't find a G-Reverb manual online (if there is one at all).

I tried to find a manual too - I don’t think there is one. I’ve owned several Gomez amps, and although it’s nice to know they had the switch, I’ve never had occasion to use it. Most companies don’t bother with such trivialities. Dario Gomez was nothing if not thorough.
