I use this little 2w train) it breaks up pretty yearly however that I like a lot! Had a lot of small tube amps but this one is a killer)I play nice saturated naturally overdriven tones and my family is not bothered in the next room.

What are those Yamaha EGV-103C's going for? There's one in my area available.

It's SGV-300)

Hi, Samurai. Before I got my Orange Crush 35RT, I tried out a Blackstar ID:Core 20 but sent it back after a week. Despite it having loads of effects and other bells and whistles, I didn't like any of the guitar voices. It also made this persistant hissing noise when idle, regardless of the volume setting. I know that many people swear by the Yamaha THR5 and THR10, but I'm afraid my experience with the Blackstar totally put me off the whole idea of modelling amps and I decided to go for the less-is-more approach of a good solid-state amp - a decision I'm very happy with. I hope your Yamaha doesn't suffer from the same drawbacks I encountered with my Blackstar and that you get a lot of pleasure from playing through it.

Hi Delrin! I understand you) I had an Orange Crush and it’s a great beast, I even used it on rehearsals for a year or so.
But THR10 is just another level, especially for a home use IMHO) The feelings while you play are unbelievably close to a tube amp, dynamic and sensitive, that I really like. Plus some effects for “plug and play everything”. Love it.

Samurai - Sounds good. What are the effects like (particularly spring reverb and tremolo)? And what about the hissing issue I encountered with the Blackstar - any problems like that?

Its quiet like hell even in high gain Confused
Reverb is just an average one, but you may dial some pretty surfy sounds
Tremolo has some limited dialing but ok for some coloring. No Duane Eddy for sure). I used Zoom MS-70cdr with it for reverb and tremolo and it was cooool) but I am mostly lazy to connect it.

Those Yamaha THR are a great all rounder for bedroom use. Depending on how quiet you need to be is the key to it's desirability IMHO. The original beige which I owned only sounded good when cranked which defeated the object of having a quiet neighbor friendly amp in the first place! The THR doesn't have a lot of bass but they can get piercingly loud in a small room. I sold it on wiping a small tear from my eye as I handed it over at the post office, it was so nearly the amp I craved but in the end sadly not fit for purpose.

But why? Yes, it can be loud, but it sounds great even at low volumes, even overdriven. I practice with it at night while my children sleep in the neighbour room. Hate headphone practice so THR is the key.

It's possible I may have had a slightly faulty unit(?) The clean model had very weak signal strength, absolutely unusable through USB for recording. It was a very early model. I put my money towards a general purpose amp, the Quilter Mach 2 ticked all the boxes for my needs including gain and reasonably good tone at super low volume. I wasn't expecting the amp to be able to do that quite as good as it does. Needless to say I'm very happy with my little setup.. Yeah I know it's overkill for quiet playing! Smile

Nice you’ve found what you wanted) never tried to record through THR - just got no need to. For practice and jamming along - perfect as for me)

My bedroom amp is really my living room amp. It's an all tube Marshall DSL5C 5w, 10" amp with a 1w switch in the back. No onboard effects, though, but it sounds great. Before that, I had a Fender Super Champ XD...another great amp, but with 15w, it's a bit too powerful for my small room purpose.

I agree with the Orange Crush 35 being a great bedroom amp. I play a Hallmark 65 custom through it and can get great surf and early OC punk tones through it. Only pedal I run through it is an eq pedal isn’t the effects loop to boost the treble a little.

I run a guitar > pedal board or guitar > Zoom G1Xon to
my bedroom desktop "stack" - a Quilter Labs MicroBlock 45
45W amp head connected to a Randall RG8 35W 1x8 8-ohm speaker cab.

I love my THR5, snd may check out the THR10C at some point.

I also owned the 10x, but didn't care for it, so I sold it off.

Deal with reality, or reality will deal with you.

Though I don't have an amp in the bedroom, the only amp I plug into at home is my 1976 Vibro Champ. I have a Silverface for every occasion.

I use a pro junior 4 plus boss Frv when no one is home. And a VOX AC30 amplug late at night
