Permalink Setlist ideas for Tiki-lounge -south pacific kitschy duet

New Topic

Im contemplating a side project to roll out in a couple of the smaller venues on the Tutukaka coast. Im thinking guitar (my trusty 65 lag with 6g15 via either my vox or suitable fender) accompanying a female vocalist on ukulele and/or percussion. I have a few good ideas in terms of covers of kiwi and international songs that would go down well in that genre. There is actually a grass roofed tiki hut style restaurant within walking distance of my place and they currently only have jazz there on a sunday. Its not quite big/loud enough for a full on surf band.
Anyone here care to offer up a few ideas of what else might go down well on that sort of set list?

Sort of angling at Tiki-lounge-south pacific kitsch.

Thanks all

Bali Hai of course!

Have a great female vocalist lined up. Firey red hair and voice somewhre between Patsy Cline and Etta James.
Discovering some GREAT old kiwi hawaiian/wartime tunes. Check out Les Wilson and Jean Calders 'Never find another wahine like me' and 'Blue Smoke' by Ruru Karaitiana and sung by Pixie Williams. It was the first wholey prudcued in New Zealand. What a great start!

House of Bamboo, of course.

Kia Ora Pihabeach82!

I assume you have plenty of Bill Sevesi and His Islanders, plus the many Peter Posa Pasifika-themed releases?

If not, hit me up!

Kon-tiki -Shadows
Could be a good instrumental song if you wanna give her a break.

This kinda small beachside tiki bar playing (lower volume slower songs) is EXACTLY what I’m working on gettin set up where I live.

"Fever" is another lounge type song that would work well in a tiki setting.

I've always wanted to hear Martin Cilia's "Going to Kaliponi" with a Uke on the rhythm; a uke would be perfect for that.
