Just a heads-up to all Surf Guitar 101'ers in the Greater Philadelphia / South Jersey Area. The King of Surf, Dick Dale himself will be playing at the Ardmore Music Hall in Ardmore, PA (just outside Philly) on 8/16/18.
The Ardmore is a great venue; basically a moderate sized club with great sound and good sight lines and plenty of good places to eat nearby. I'm on vacation that week so I'm planning on being there for sure. I saw Dick there last year and he tore the roof off the place.

Yes, wonderful he will be there and again doing an east coast tour. He will be returning to an Alexandria, Virginia venue called Birchmere on Thursday, August 30, 2018.
Would be great if his fans show up to support him, take in some shredding, only he can do. Here's a photo of him at Birchmere on May 26, 2004. Dusty Watson was on drums, Sam Bolle on bass at that show.

I really think that anyone who even has a passing interest in surf music or even masterfull guitar playing owes it to themselves to take advantage of the opportunity to experience Dick Dale live much less the fanatics who participate in this site. Despite his age and health issues, I can attest to the fact that once the King straps his Strat on he still has it. Unlike some other "older" stars of the past, he doesn't phone it in. If you closed your eyes you probably couldn't tell it was an 80 year old ripping away.

I see him every chance I get here in SoCal. Just recently saw him at The Coach House. Still going strong! See him if you get the chance!

Definitely go see him if you can. I saw him here in Memphis this past April, he recognized me and pulled me up on stage with him! I wrote a trip report a few years ago about how we hung out together at Sun Studio when his show got canceled. It was much more than a once in a lifetime experience.
