So, it's not a '58 like Buddy's last Stratocaster, but it's a '59 Reissue and it has a BEAUTIFUL neck! I can't believe how good this neck feels: chunkier than my 60's guitars, but easy to play. I definitely have my Buddy groove goin' on this beauty! I tried to get some of the birdseye maple on the neck, but this camera isn't all that great. It's a work of art, though and much better than the necks of my previous '57 reissues.

Beautiful guitar. I’m always making mental notes of the strats with chunkier necks. I will have to check one out.

Thanks! I really need to do some better photos. It has custom shop pickups in it that sound pretty damned good!

Beautiful guitar Matt! I don't hate strats! I recently played a couple of reissues because I was thinking I would like a bit more chunk. I'm really glad I did because I was left feeling that my American Standards are just right for me. That's a good feeling. Don't need to spend more money!!!

Congratulations Matt! Nice lookin' neck too. It actually (perhaps oddly) looks a bit like my AVRI '65, which is part of the reason it floated to the top when I was trying a bunch. I like those slightly thicker necks and, for whatever reason, I still think the maple boards have a thicker, richer tone for many things.

Thanks everyone! Donald, it's not the one in the picture. Those do look like nice guitars, though. I also have the custom shop pickups in there.

Thanks! I haven't gotten to "test-drive" it outside of my little practice room, but my old band, Barry the Hatchet, is reforming soon and this will become my main axe once we do.
Still no surf band down here in Sierra Vista, but who knows? I have played the occasional instrumental with my recent bands, but it's not the same without a real tank on stage.

Whatta looker! I was thinking of getting a ‘59 AVRI also, mostly because of the slim d shaped neck - is that what yours has? I’m confused because of your “chunkier” description. May I ask: chunkier than what?

It's got a chunkier (thicker) neck than 60s guitars.

That’s so weird since the ‘59 AVRI strats I’m looking at on reverb all say they have the slimmer C to D shaped neck. Do you know what shape yours is?

I bought a '59 AVRI rosewood neck for my '65 AVRI Strat last year, thinking it would be more like a '62 AVRI. Turns out it was a lot closer to the '65 than the '62, and ultimately too thick for me. It's definitely a chunky neck.
Congrats on the gorgeous Strat, Matt!

gusto, are you maybe interested in just buying the neck? See here: https://surfguitar101.com/forums/topic/30794/
