Congrats SSS!!! Glad you finally found one, she looks good!

Thanks for taking a look at it guys, I appreciate it. I probably paid a little too much for it, but I got tired of looking and just decided to buy one that appeared to be in good condition.

Josh, are you saying I can get electrocuted from touching the bottom side of the chassis? I am extremely careful when I swap cabinets, and try not to touch anything that may electrocute me. I appreciate the heads up.

Next to the transformers on the bottom side of chassis, there is a big metal bump. Under it are a bunch of electrolytic caps. Those can keep a charge, so just be careful if you remove that cover. That’s all.

If it works and sounds good and you’re happy with it, you didn’t over pay.

Welcome to the Blackface Bandmaster club (of which I am also a proud member). Cheers!

The price with shipping is not unreasonable if it has had all the updates such as the electrolytic caps.

Thanks for the information guys. I am having Peter Mather build me a blonde cabinet for it, but now I am very concerned about swapping it myself. I think I will take it to a professional and let him do it for me. Uh-Oh

I admit I do get a little over worked up sometimes, that is one of the things I struggle with having OCD. It's an awful disorder, but I am getting help with it. Anyway, I am making a list for the tech to address.

  1. Make sure it is 4 ohms.
  2. Remove death cap (if present).
  3. Add bleeder resistors.
  4. Cord ground properly connected.
  5. Electrolytics in good shape.

Anything else you can think of, let me know. Thanks again for all your help.

You can kill any voltage for a cab swap by plugging in the speaker cab and shutting down just the main power and leave the standby on. You will drain off remaining voltage enough to unscrew it and pull the chassis and put it in your new cab!

Well guys, I finally got my amp back from the tech. I swapped over the cabinet and now I am all set. I will say swapping over the cabinet was a difficult task. I really struggled with the last bolt behind the transformer on the original chassis. In all it took me 2.5 hours to do.

I did extensive research on where to place the Fender logo. On vintage Fender heads that are rough blonde and oxblood, the logo is placed a little more to the left than on any other amp/cabinet. It's a small detail, but I wanted to get it right. I realize the cream knobs don't look authentic with the current faceplate, but I really prefer them over the black ones.

Anyway, the amp sounds amazing! I have been playing a '76 Princeton or a mid 80's Peavey Studio Pro 112 (had to keep up with the drummer) and what a difference! The main thing I noticed is that this amp fills the room. Seriously, it sounds big, clean, and loud. It is going into a 1x12 Eminence Legend 1218 150 watt 4 ohm speaker. I am very happy with the look and the sound of the amp.

Anyway, he said he clipped the death cap for me and rewired the 3 prong cord because it was not installed properly. He never confirmed if it was 4ohms though, so hopefully it is. By the way, I wanted to say thank you to everyone who helped me along the way and answered all of my questions. You guys are wonderful. Here are a few photos of the amp.

Very nice, SixString. Congrats.

I appreciate all of the comments, guys. Nice amp, stratdancer! Tqi, that is good to know. There is a video of The Driptones practicing the other night on our fb page @TheDriptones. The amp was still in the original black cabinet. Anyway, it was shot with just an iPhone and the drums dominate the sound, but you can kind of get an idea of what it sounds like. I will upload some videos soon of me playing though the amp so you guys can really hear the tone.
