Ed, Karol would have an alternate work around if the genius at Apple hadn't killed the iPod years ago. She could burn her CD collection to iTunes, transfer them to the iPod an play the iPod in the Toyota Entune system through the USB port. BTW not only did Apple discontinue the iPod the no longer support the product or even offer parts and service. Appel is well known for superior customer service, do this is amazing.

You can absolutely do this with an iPhone. It's essentially just an iPod with extra features.

Just go super old school and listen to AM talk radio like I do.

Jamie, if you read Ed's post, he knows that but he and Karol have concerns.

Happy Sunsets!

Karol Katcher just brought home a new 2018 Toy-motor Camry Sport. It too did not include a CD player. Now, had she stepped up another $1200 for the "premium sound system," she would have been "rewarded" with a single disk player. Figure that one out. Needless to say she has concerns (and so do I) about having to load all her fave music into her iPhone and have it continuously steaming to her car's system and dealing with all the file handling/trying to drive the damn car at the same time challenges.............. Accident waiting to happen. Literally.

I dig both my vehicle's 6 disk players and I'm going to keep them going until, well..........you get the idea.

I gave myself a pro disk copier several years back so having a plan B for "maintaining" the disks themselves is no problem-o.

I usually just shuffle my entire collection when I'm driving any distance and if a song comes up that I don't care for I forward to the next tune using the controls on the sound system.

When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar.

Use a combination of Ipod, CD's and vinyl. Don't have Iphone, have Galaxy Edge. Use phone for recording song ideas and live stuff. Eventually I'll be forced to move everything to the cloud, but I think by then I'll be in the clouds...

Surf, the most dangerous of all musical genres...

Never put your entire collection on some "Cloud" service without a local backup. Please!

My music is on 3 separate hard disks, similar to my work projects backup plan:
1- - pristine archive and backup HD
2- active HD for playback
3- SSD on phone

I back up as well, locally, but I've had to replace harddrives and never has my two clouds failed or had a single problem.

On my iPhone, I run an app called LeechTunes, which can be configured so your entire screen becomes the control - tap to start/pause, swipe right for next song, swipe left for previous.

I buy CDs and records. I hate downloads, such a cop-out.

I want the cd whenever possible, ...and would also be happy with vinyl. One of the worst things about digital is the non-music part is often only the front cover. Just include another jpeg or two with writing credits, personnel, acknowledgements, etc. Who the composer is is important. And I especially want to know who is playing, and what instruments.

I still buy the CD's. I don't buy vinyl. I gladly pay for downloads, but only if it's not released on CD. The streaming sites pay so little to the artists, that I don't believe in supporting them.

I buy cd's. That's my 1st choice. Vinyl is last. I haven't tried my turntable in more than a decade.

I buy the CD when the vinyl is not available. I so hope some modern surf releases will appear on wax someday..

Cheers,
Andy

Many are now.
limited to certain bands that are fairly popular.
I like what the Bradipos IV did. Cd and download code in with a Vinyl LP.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

Including the CD with the vinyl is the only way that I'll buy the vinyl. Kudos to the Bradipos IV for doing it that way.

I prefer downloads, as I want as little "stuff" as possible. If an album that want is only available on CD, I'll get it.
I try and buy my downloads directly form the artist when possible, or from Bandcamp, since the artist gets a better cut than buying from iTunes, Amazon, etc. I don't use streaming services.

Deal with reality, or reality will deal with you.

I played a few vinyls 3 months ago and haven't cared to play more since. CDs freed me from the drudgery of vinyl maintenance---from the Discwasher, the Soundguard and its special antistatic fluid, the turntable arm weight scale, needle brushes to remove dust, and the ion generator pistol to spray ions on the discs to repel dust. Despite all precautions dust still accumulated on the needles and distorted the sound. I bought the fancy stylus cartridges that tracked with 1.2 grams or less to minimize wear, including the extra wear of grinding dust into the vinyl grooves. Then, after 20 minutes of listening, at most, I'd have to flip the record over or change records to continue listening.

Every LP has snaps, crackles and pops that multiply with each play. You get to know where they happen. The S/N ratio is at best 50 db with vinyl and the channel separation is only 25 db and these degrade with use.

CDs freed me from this drudgery and noise. CDs give S/N ratio and channel separation of 90-100 db, with 74 to 80 minute capacity per CD. Dust on the CD, ha ha, I don't care.

Thats funny, cause I ain’t got any cd player for some years. No cd player at home, in car or notebook.
