Delrin -
Glad to hear you are enying being a member of our surf community!
You: I was thrown by the change of rhythm during the Cmaj section in your version. Me: It is all just "CRASH - BANG - BOOM!" to me! I believe you refer to the "swing-y-er" section of the version of WDR I covered. I think of a swingy "Pink Panther Theme" sound there. To me, a fun part of playing surf is the variation in tempos and styles for the same tune. My band also plays many surf tunes "Bongo-style" for our quieter cocktail-hour gigs. (find a "Habanera" beat bongo track and play the tunes you are learning to it for an interesting exercise!)
I did record drums-only tracks for "Lullaby of the Leaves" and "Exotique". Check them out - but no rush.
Baby steps!
-Dick

Hmmm...nobody mentioned Misirlou?

That's the starting point for surf guitar.

Check out Bruce Lindquist’s surf guitar lessons on YouTube.
He has a lot of good lessons and is easy to follow.

Best of luck and welcome to the forum. Definitely one

Hi CrashHardTop, your right about Bruce Lindquist, I like his site, just wondering if you have ,or know where to obtain the BT to Caterpillar Crawl, he does a good lesson on this tune. Brian

agree with above that huevos rancheros version of diamond head is well worth checking out on youtube.
diamond head = really easy to play whichever version you choose.
bedlam by the belairs is a good beginner one as well, in my opinion, as you don't have to be ridiculously fast on day one...
and Bruce Lindquist is fantastic--he chooses great songs to showcase in addition to great style, tabs, & nice looking guitars too.
