Permalink FS - 1971 Fender Jazzmaster

New Topic

1971 Fender Jazzmaster. Fairly rare bird as one does not see many Jazzmasters from the 1970s. This one still has it's original tortoise guard.

The guitar is original except for the tremolo bar and the neck pickup. It also does not have it's original case. I will provide an aftermarket tweed case for it, which I received it in. It has years of play-wear on it but still works fine. Please see photos for details of the wear.

When I bought the guitar about six years ago, it had an AVRI Jazzmaster pickup in the neck. I replaced it with an original, grey-bottom 1965 or 1966 Jazzmaster pickup. The pickups sound amazing in this guitar. The neck has a nice throaty tone, perfect for rock, jazz or blues and the bridge is perfect for loud rock n' roll! It really screams. The guard (as usually occurs) has shrunk over the years.

The frets on the guitar are low, but it is still eminently playable. I gigged with it regularly. I strung the guitar with .12's and used it mostly for surf/instrumental music. If you want to get your James Burton on, you may need to refret it. I did not want to disturb the binding so I never did.

The guitar has a comfortable weight to it. Certainly not a boat-anchor, which many of the later Jazzmasters were.

Not looking for any trades and I'll only ship to a CONUS address.

$2,800.
