Let's have some fun ...

"Flight of the Surf Guitar" by The Atlantics is probably my favorite surf tune to play. It's 2 mins and 40 seconds (or so) of fun and fury. It is just a really cool song and a great exercise for surf guitar playing.

So I would love to see everybody's version of this classic tune. It will be interesting to see the different tones, styles and guitars that everybody is using. All I ask is that everybody keep it positive when commenting on the efforts submitted here.

So alright.. I'll get it started. I'm playing an Eastwood Surfcaster thru a Fender Mustang III amp to a backing track.

Have fun everybody!

Ed

I may have to do this as this is the song that got me into surf. Shit. You mean I have to PLAY IT?

Oh, my, do I ever get that completely. Fun tune & the 2nd thing that came to my head when trying (still) to play this right is "I will NEVER let the drummer count this off...."

I was watching the WHYs just last night.....while enjoying my quest into the drippy realm of surf rock.

I’ve never done this song, but it looks like a lot of fun. Perhaps, one of these days, I’ll be back with a version as played on a Gretsch.

Well, I made a soundcloud account just to rise to this challenge and here's my version.

Mostly, I like it!
While your deviations create a totally different feel, you do hold on to the basic parts of the song.
For me,
I have always felt that the song was played way to fast originally. Actually, I feel that way about some fairly modern surf songs too.
To each their own.
Nice job!

This challenge motivated me to write "Space Force," the first song in the Insanitizers just-released album of the same name. The YouTube link appears below. Or hear the entire album at
insanitizers.bandcamp.com/album/space-force
or on Pandora, Spotify etc (search on Insanitizers ).
