Tomorrow we leave for Italy to start our big tour. It's a very exciting moment for me, the culmination of years of hard work. The weekly practices honing our music, writing new material trying to explore the boundaries of where we can go with surf music, and establishing friendships in and around our surf music community. To think, that on almost a whim I picked up the guitar again after a 12 year hiatus and it eventually leading up to this, my second and much larger international tour traveling through 6 countries (playing in 4), is a source of amazement and of course, great pride.
I believe much credit goes to SG101, and the constant support and camaraderie that I found here. I've established friendships that have grown to be some of the deepest and most gratifying in my life. I've discovered music that has enriched and inspired and taught me how to be not just a musician, but a surf musician, and to be proud of that fact. If you search the archives you'll find I was a newbie just like many of you on here. And I hope (without sounding too grandiose) that my successes act as an inspiration to others, much as people like Ivan and Ferenc and Ted (to name just 3) have for me.
Much of my success I can credit to the good fortune to live in a region with a decent sizes pool of musicians, and a surf scene already established (Thanks to Ferenc), and the easy travel to regions such as SoCal and PNW. But even without those factors, I think I'd still be at it, plinking away and making demos and finding new combinations of chords notes and beats. Because, when on the rare occasion it works and out comes something worthwhile, there are few greater gifts you can give yourself, fewer highs not induced by external means, few expressions of one's own spirit. I urge everyone here to keep at it, even while the modern world passes us by, or has passed us by years ago :). One never knows where life can lead us, and the simple act of playing a guitar or drums can one day take you farther than you ever thought imaginable.

Well said Danny! SG101 has greatly benefited from having you here. You have been such a constant supporter and cheerleader for the site, the genre, and the people in it. Danny has always been so helpful and friendly to newcomers and very generous with his time here. I'm sure I'm not the only one here to say thank you and to wish you good luck on this amazing tour!! Hopefully you can find some time to drop us a line now and then and let us know how it's going.
Bon Voyage and knock 'em dead!

I'm just gonna say "ditto" to Danny's sentiment. Very well stated and summed up many of my feelings before embarking on this trip. I was a wee lad when I joined this forum; now I get to go play drums with some of my best friends!
I'm stoked to see old friends and make some new ones. Come out and say 'hello' Wooo!

I made a trip from Berlin to Venlo to see the TomorrowMen and the Insect Surfers play there, and I have to say that it was totally worth it!
I first heard of the TomorrowMen shortly before they released their first album, which I luckily got from Lorenzo, when he was still traveling around with a large box of records. (I still have a folder with three demo songs and a live set recorded by KFJC, to which I listen occasionally.)
Unfortunately I was not able to go to Surfer Joe, when they first played there in 2012, and this year again other things required my presence in Berlin. So I was very happy to see, that Arny had organized a concert of the TomorrowMen and the Insect Surfers on one of my free weekends. He also made some stunning pictures:

The concert was nothing short of amazing: Fantastic music, energy and showmanship. The TomorrowMen have a very distinctive, yet versatile approach to surf music, and it was just great to hear a "modern" surf band of that quality.
Thank you for coming to Europe! Hope to see you all again in the future!

It was great to meet you in Venlo, thanks for making the long journey. So nice to have a chance for a more relaxed conversation with you and your wife, there's so much going on at Surfer Joe, it's a whirlwind. That was a fun show, and the accommodations that night were a real adventure.

Thanx Simon, for making the long drive from Berlin to my hometown Venlo. The place was packed on a wednesdaynight thanks to people like you and your wife! Hope you liked your stay in Venlo! Sorry that I didn't had time to talk to you longer. Putting up shows like this and taking photo's all night is pretty time consuming

Just got home. I'll write up some thoughts about my experiences in Europe soon. But briefly, the trip was everything I'd hoped it would be. One of the great times of my life. The Surfer Joe performance especially will be the high-water mark for the band, I can't see topping that night. More to follow....

Here's a video Paul Dickson uploaded to Youtube of us playing our new song Rococo Beach at Surfer Joe. It's an attempt at writing a surf instro inspired by classical motifs. It actually rocks pretty good too!

LOVE both videos, Danny! I just shared the longer one on my FB page and wrote: "Of the many (MANY!) surf bands playing there over the course of 3-4 days, they seem to be one that everybody's been talking about afterwards, which is a heck of an achievement! And in this video they play three brand-spanking new songs (all just killer!), in addition to their all-time-classic "Momentium" (which I included on the "Brave New Surf" compilation back in '12) and a phenomenal cover of the Ghouls' shredding "Voodoo Juice" from '64-'65! A band at the top of their game!"
I also wrote in the YouTube comments the following:
"Danny, what are the names of the two below tracks in this video? Here's what I've got:
- Magyara (0:00-2:15)
- Cossack Patrol/Meadowlands/Rocket Man (2:15-5:03)
- Momentium (5:04-8:32)
- ?? (8:33-13:10)
- Voodoo Juice (13:11-15:08)
- Rococo Beach (15:09-17:46)
- ?? (17:47-20:38)
Such a great performance!! You guys were really on fire, sounding great, looking great!! Well done, my friend!!! (I especially like that track #4 and Rococo Beach, great additions to the T-Men cannon!)"
