Hola all,
A few weeks ago I got done going through my 1965 6G15 Reverb Tank that Id purchased back in the 80's form a used gear shop. It worked kinda OK when I bought it but never was really "right".
As time went on it got worse, grainy and harsh, and a friend of mine who was into building and modding amps 'fixed' it for me (at least he put in a 3-prong cord) but also did some other mods that made it even more un-surf-like. He was into Hendrix and I think he was going for a distortion sound as well, at least that's how it ended up.
Finally after years of it sitting in my basement I decided to roll up my sleeves and make it right. IF this is the kind of subject that interests you, you might enjoy the thread about it - I got a TON of great advice, insight and help from some great amp techs. Learned a lot, had a good time, and better yet, made some new friends and this thing is finally reverberating just like Leo intended!
Enjoy...Fender Vintage Amp forum, 6G15 TLC thread

Thanks! There's lots of extremely knowledgeable people here as well, and those guys over at the Fender forum know their stuff inside and out too. Between the two websites I learned a ton about these units.
Building a Surfy Bear in a 6G15 clone cabinet I made prior to the resto effort was an added bonus. Very satisfying to play them back to back and know, for sure, that the vintage unit is working just right after all this time (sounds juuusssst a tad wetter and saucier!).
Cheers!
