Gosh, what a lineup!
This will undoubtedly be an amazing show.
Have a great time!

Love that living room "practice rig"
Does the furniture dance when you hit the low notes?
Is your wife away again? LOL.

Cheers,
Jeff

Jeff, I had the amp on about 4-4.5 - loud, no doubt, but not super loud! And it's a Bandmaster, not a Showman/Surfer. My wife was away while I was practicing, but she's home in general - she was generous enough to let me keep that rig there in the living room the last three days, very patient! Smile

Hope to see some SG101ers tonight! Our first show in SEVEN months!!! It's been way too long!

BTW, tonight's rough schedule:
8:45 pm - Thee Aquaholics
9:45 pm - the Madeira
10:45 pm - The Coffin Daggers
Ends: 11:45 pm-Midnight

Midnight is a hard constraint as the club switches to a DJ (I think) and turns into a dance club. They'd prefer to have the stage cleared by Midnight, too - so, it shouldn't be a very late night! Come get your reverb/echo fix! Smile

She (your wife) sounds like a good one Ivan, that's awesome.
Have a great time tonight, once again, what a show!

Have a great show! Wish I could be there. To make up for it I am listening to Ancient Winds and Aggravatin' Rhythms back to back!! So good!

Last nights show in Bloomington was a blast!
The Aquaholics opened the night with a fantastic set and a really tight and we'll balanced sound. From the start they set the standard for the evening. You should all check these guys out. Next on were the Madeira. I probably don't have to say much as most of you are well aware how good they are, and this night was no exception. A very tough act to follow! We certainly had our work cut out for us. We had a good time even though we were all loopy from travelling, and I felt like I had 4 thumbs after Ivan's ripping performance! I think we pulled it off ok though, no major disasters or painful clams, so all went well in the end. The best part is we get to do it all over again tonight at the melody inn. On our way to Indianapolis now. Hope some of you can make it.

That's great news from everyone - have fun at Melody Inn. Thumbs Up

(Just posted pics and videos above, just in case you missed it.)

What a truly great weekend of music! Both shows were fantastic, but Saturday's show at Melody Inn was one of our best ever there - and we've played there some 25 times in the past 13 years, including opening for Dick Dale twice! 100+ enthusiastic surf music fans (full club), an amazing vibe, the best club in Indy, and a mind-blowing set by the Coffin Daggers, one of the best sets of surf music I've ever witnessed! (BIG thanks to Viktor for ending their set with Deep Purple's "Wring That Neck" for me - you guys killed it!) I got shivers over and over again, it truly was as good as it gets! The final song of their set, the medley of Third Stone from the Sun and Caravan was truly epic! It really gave chance to all the members to demonstrate their fantastic musicianship - Peter on bass is the other mainstay of the band, and wow, he's such a driving and precise bassist; Rob on the Vox Continental (and occasionally on rhythm guitar) plays with immense confidence and energy; and the newest addition to the band, Tim on drums, a young 'un Smile , was exceptionally good, with his drum solo in Caravan particularly impressive!

Friday's show in Bloomington was a BLAST, too - 75-90 people, pretty much a full club, with a bunch of people dancing throughout the evening. The local heroes Thee Aquaholics played a FANTASTIC set - look for their debut album coming soon! It's gonna be a great one! (I heard most of it and love it!) These guys are not well-known yet, but they're excellent players, they LOVE surf music and totally GET IT, they've written a set of really good songs - and they're the nicest people you could ever hope to meet! Player's Pub in Bloomington loves them, and loves surf music - touring bands, please take note: make Bloomington, IN one of your stops! And The Coffin Daggers were on fire that night, too! Viktor played a Strat and vintage Mosrite through an INCREDIBLE sounding vintage Echoplex (and a bunch of pedals) into a brownface '63 Bassman, which sounded like the Voice of God Himself! Smile Viktor's really one of the very best guitarists in surf music today, but - as they say - criminally underrated! As is the whole band, really. This has got to change! These guys are definitely the cream of the modern surf crop, and their last two albums are both incredible - 2011's "Monsters from the ID" and 2016's "Aggravatin' Rhythms" (both on vinyl, too!). CANNOT recommend both of these highly enough - if you don't have 'em, you really owe it to yourselves to pick 'em up right away! And go see them live if you have a chance, you will NOT regret it!

Our two bands got to have dinner together at a nice Italian restaurant before Saturday's show in Indy, and it was just a great time! The last time we played together was exactly ten years ago, and we hadn't even seen each other since then, but there was a deep camaraderie there right away, like no time had passed at all. Just the nicest guys, and a great hang! LOTS of super-nerdy surf music and gear talk, combined with great pizza! What could be better!?! Big Grin

We also had a bunch of people come from fairly far away: Raleigh Fontaine and his wife all the way from Columbus, OH (there for both shows - wow!), R Stacy Fenner and Guy Moore (Cincinnati!), and Jet Sterling and a few more from Champaign, IL - if you read this, thank you all, you rule!

These were the Madeira's first shows in seven months, and it felt wonderful to be back! So great to see my bandmates again, too, those guys are awesome! We get to do it again in less four weeks in Cincinnati! And then Dane and I get to play two shows again with the mighty Coffin Daggers in New Jersey and Brooklyn in two months as part of The Blair Pongracic Band east coast tour! Annndd then the Madeira is off to SoCal for the SG101 Convention in early August!! Lots of good stuff ahead to look forward to!

Huge thanks to the Coffin Daggers for coming all the way from NYC, and to Thee Aquaholics and The Transylvania Hell Sounds for playing with us! See you all again soon!

Thanks Ivan, you are much too kind! We had a great time and on behalf of the band thanks again for inviting us out there and setting up these great shows.
While the Madeira was amazing in Bloomington, the Melody Inn show was something special. The sound was ENORMOUS!! You guys were cooking and playing on another level altogether. The crowd was great too. And I should say that even though 2/3's of Transylvania Hell Sounds were new members that didn't know the songs and hadn't rehearsed, they were quite enjoyable and entertaining none the less. Looking forward to Asbury and Brooklyn!

It was truly our pleasure! Thank YOU for being willing to make such a long trek. I've done it quite a few times, and know how exhausting it is.

While the Madeira was amazing in Bloomington, the Melody Inn show was something special. The sound was ENORMOUS!! You guys were cooking and playing on another level altogether.

Thank you! And that's exactly how I felt about you guys! Friday was a very good night, but it really was just a warm-up for Saturday's show, which was firing on 12 cylinders! I suspect for you guys it was due to being a bit woozy from the long drive on Friday, but then having gotten good rest for Saturday; and for us on Friday it was a matter of shaking off some cobwebs having not played in seven months, but by Saturday, we were loose and ready! Oh, also, having that time limit on Friday I think dampened things a bit, where Saturday was a total rock show - music till 2 am, baby! Usually I'm dead tired by that point, but Saturday was so much fun that I felt just great even at 3 am! (The cocaine probably helped, too.... ;) Just kidding!)

The crowd was great too.

One of the best we've ever seen at the Mel! It makes the whole experience so much better, I must say! Smile

Looking forward to Asbury and Brooklyn!

Dane and I, too! So glad we're doing that!
