Las Barracudas, you're killin' me. That's like the third instrumental played on a Jinx Jones album that I now know is a cover. I used to think Baja (before I listened to surf) and The Messiah Will Come Again were originated by Jones. Oh well he's still one of my favorite pickers.
I'll link this delightful ditty by the Hillbilly Hellcats.

Right up there is a number by 'ol Ritchie Blackmore, who actually found himself, in earlier years, popping up on surf records.

Still I'm Sad

I'd list Link Wray but he's in the 'mainstream' of what is considered instrumental on this site. SO, it's a toss-up between Hot Tuna's "Water Song' (intricate guitar picking laced with a melodic fuzz bass lead)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6giiYDlqRQs
or Hendrix's 'Pali Gap' (two and sometimes three (!) guitars entwined over bells and an ostinato rhythm)...doesn't seem to be on youtube, tho! Sad
i love the scores of answers to this neverending question !

Space whispers aside they don't count. I'd like to suggest Gong - The Isle of Everywhere. But what key is this song in? the pitch gets higher and higher, those crazy pothead pixies are going to run out of notes/frets! ..aren't they? Smile

Pfooo...There are so much of them. Not really a 'most' favorite..Depends on the daymood.

Gonzo - Booker
Hot Cakes (whatever serving) - Dave Cortez
The Wailer - The Wailers
David's Mood - Jack Ely
Supertramp - White Rabbit
Psyche Rock - Les Yper-sound
Soul sitar - Sohail Rana
Backslop - Baby Earl and the Trinidads
And lotsssss more...

Cheers,
Andy

This Ray Barbee tune is my current fave other than the classics (to me, Hideaway, Green Onions) I think I first saw this here sometime ago.

All I wish I knew what they were talking about

My all time favorite instrumental song

Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells on LP with head set on and Adult Beverages Tubular Bells This one from the BBC live broadcast

The Appleseed Cast - The Clock and the Storm

A fitting ending to one of my all time favorite albums of all time.

Ariel! B I G dub fan here! And B I G fan of the Revolutionaries too. Sooo much goodness coming out of Studio 1 and that whole scene in the 70's.

However, if by previous posts, instrumental covers of vocal tunes don't count, I am affraid the sensational Black Sabbath entry falls in that category too (and probably +95% of the dubs/"versions" from that period would too).

I'm pretty sure the original music/melody for that one was Clement "Coxsone" Dodd producing Barry Brown's Give Love.

+1 back '78 some friends and I took off out of the sticks to the big smoke! To live in Lewisham London smack in the middle of a Jamaican community. The sound of the Revolutionaries drifted through the windows every day. Great times thanks for reminding me.

I don't subscribe to "favorite" much with music.
There's just too much out there that moves me to have a favorite, but I will submit Jeff Beck's version of "Goodbye Porkpie Hat" as something that I think is an incredible achievement of expression.
Whispers, murmurs, screams, all in one song, all on a guitar, all done with the hands.
Yeah man!

Cheers,
Jeff

More instrumental Pink Floyd:

Interstellar Overdrive - 1967 The Piper at the Gates of Dawn

Atom Heart Mother Suite - 1971 Atom Heart Mother

On the Run * Any Colour You Like - 1973 The Dark Side of the Moon

Fast Cars & Loud Guitars!

Pretty much everything on Jeff Beck's Blow by Blow and Guitar Shop albums and Earl Slick's In Your Face.

Either you surf, or you fight.

Today for me it's

Beck's Bolero
