and then there was the group i played with last summer.......'lady j and the jives'. thank goodness i was not in on naming this band. and, what the hell is a jive?

The Jive is a fast dance. It's changed from a Glenn Miller Swing in the forties to R&B/Soul in the sixties, and now it's in the Latin category in Ballroom competition. Jive is also slang for misleading someone you don't respect.

You didn't really want an answer to this, did you? Big Grin

haha......'hi, i'm a jive'

As far as a band name and concept, The Pizza Underground has gotta be up there with the worst. Velvet Underground covers, with the lyrics changed to pizza themes, with Macaulay "Home Alone" Culkin on percussion. I suppose An-l C-nt and Creaming Jesus are pretty bad band names too...

As my keys player says most names are dumb until you make it big.

The Earworms

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Two local(Phx)bands with terrible names:
-Pinky Tuscadero's WhiteKnuckle AssFuck
-Blanche Davidian
I'm not sure if either are still together...We can only hope not!

If I ever decide to become a drag queen I'm stealing the Blanche Davidian name! Rock

In the 70's I had a horrible band and so I came up with a name to match- 'Doctor Hoodoo and the Atom Smashers'. So the rhythm player thought he'd make a nice surprise and made up some calling cards- Doctor Houdou and the Atom Smashers which to me read 'How-dow'.

Later they changed the name and made it worse but not as bad as the matching shirts they ordered with poofy sleeves.

Shortly after a bunch of our equipment was stolen I quit the band. Don't ask me why. Sigh

I'm planning on having Brunch Dravidian. You know, Telugu croissann'wiches.

theres a fun band here in san diego called 'Jahovas Fitness', i love the heck out of their name

That's better than "Jehova's Wetness" anyway.

Just take two Devvyls Advyl and call it a night.

All the indie bands these days have bad names that aren't cute, funny or clever. Mostly they are just misspelled: Diiv?? Or is it supposed to be all capitals?

All caps I think. This is a great point and there's no correlation between the name and seemingly anything. Car Seat Headrest is my current fave indie band thingy and what a horrible name. There is some logic to it though- the guy would go out to the car for privacy for writing and I think even recording songs/song parts. A one man project which made him a bit more interesting to me. I even may redo his hit Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales. Anyways, at least he's not named something like Tennis which is another band and I have no opinion on that at all.

If they ever came out west they could play with my buddy's band Seatbelt.

Originally called "Seatbelt & the Pecking Order" which was even more puzzling.

Perhaps it a reference to calling shotgun.

Ob-tuse.
