Down some other rabbit hole & came up with this, which might be of interest to the real pickup geeks. Interesting project he took on, this 400-level Physics student, documented and, of course, that he selected a Strat. 
Did a rudimentary search but couldn't find anything like it here; if I missed & the link has been posted before Brian you're welcome to blow it away. This may have real limited appeal, but... hey, it's Strat-ified.

Cool! -- is the student a relation? The Prof seems to be Emeriti at the U of Illinois so this project was probably done several years ago. I've always wanted to try winding my own pickups.

No relation. Yeah, think it was a 2003 thing. I was just investigating relationships between inductance, etc., and just literally stumbled across it. I think he did one other paper that came up in the search wherein he was checking some other single-coils including a P-90 but this just seemed interesting. (Wonder if any future oceanography seniors could make a project out of surfing, as a study discipline naturally...)  Pretty cool prof; wonder what he got for a grade.
