Surfer Joe & Band live at KFJC - California 2016 !!!

I just love Lorenzo's style of playing. When I saw him earlier this year, I couldn't see him up close, but I heard his INCREDIBLY beautiful tremolo picking. In watching this video, I see that Lorenzo picks an awful lot of downstrokes unless he's tremolo picking or just going too fast and then he alternate picks as one might expect.

Does this aspect of Lorenzo's picking specifically contribute to the quality of his tremolo? I thought it might since downstroke picking nearly everything means he's essentially always moving his hand at tremolo speed when he's playing at high velocity.

Maybe Surfer Joe would comment? Smile

Hi Jonathan and thanks for the compliment. I am not sure how much downstrokes only contributes to the sound in general, but I certainly like them more than upstrokes, more energy and attack. This is probably why I got naturally used to play mostly downstrokes, I am certainly not correct technically in doing this, so this should not be taken as an example probably Smile

Rain outside, and the song in my head that I wished to record for the 2016 Comp but have no time to do so.

Cheers,

"Runnin' Strong with The Ventures" - original vinyl. I know: "not surf." But hard to argue "Moon Journey" isn't surf. They have their moments. Smile

This guy doesn't play surf but he plays over the keyboard solo on one of my favorite pieces ever; Lingus by Snarky Puppy. There are lots of guitar players that I admire but this one is different. Hope you enjoy it the way I do.
