My Mosrites.

My pearl white Mosrite of Japan Excellent 65:

here are my mosrites.. from left to right:

fillmore mosrite sidejack set neck 63 reissue (serial # 0004! hah)
1965 ventures model candy apple blue
1964 ventures model candy apple red (and i wish this was mine but its not. the guitar has virtually no player wear. unfortunately the pickups were taken out of it many moons ago, i replaced them with ef elliotts, so this pic was snapped right after i replaced the 70's humbuckers that were on it other than that the guitar is all original, including the speckled early tolex case, neck plate bolt covers, vibramute, big ventures logo, etc etc)

if you look, you can tell the 64 has a slight less pronounced german carve than the 65. suprisingly fillmore got it right and the 63 carve is more like the 64.

and ps dont laugh at my kitchen floor.. i know, its 1973. Very Happy

Hey Andy!!

Remember when you guys did a gig with El Ray in Copenhagen? Think it was back in 2003 or somewhere around that time. You had a Mosrite back then also. I don't recall any of those as being the one...?

But, wow, nice Mosrites. Which one do you prefer? Wink

Mel Waldorf stopped by for a visit on his way through Bakersfield the other day after playing a weekend gig and we set some of my collection up along with his guitars for a group shot. My black '66 and SB '64 didn't get in the picture but you can only imagine we had a great time comparing the different guitars.

Just to make sure everybody gets it - Dubtrub hand-built from scratch the two guitars on the right hand side as well as the blueburst on the floor. He made some subtle changes to the design, increasing the scale to 25" from 24.5" and increasing the width of the neck at the nut. These guitars play as well as any I've ever owned. Even more impressive to me was the completely homemade vibrato on the blueburst guitar - I wish I'd taken close up pictures to demonstrate the craftsmanship.

Dubtrub also outfitted the guitars with different pickups - the sunburst has Elliot pickups, the red one has Hallmark pickups and the blueburst has P-90s.

The bass on the floor is an early 70s model that had a badly bowed neck with dubtrub repaired. I'd never had the chance to play a Mosrite bass before and I've got to say it left me wanting one - I liked the neck feel and the tone more than the Jazz Bass I own.

Speaking of Mosrites ... a local guy has a 60s Japanese copy of the Mosrite with the F-hole, the Combo 6. It's the "Noble" brand. I've only seen a pic so far. Has anyone here seen this particular copy?

I'd love to get my hands on a Mosrite, but can't afford the vintage stuff. Any helpful advice on this much appreciated.

hey lars! ofcourse i remember el ray and the show at stengade 30! i did have the 63 reissue on tour. thats the guitar fillmore sent me when they endorsed the hypnoticIV...

that was a fun night!

the 63 is a great playing guitar, the pickups are not quite mosrite sounding but everything else is spot on and its soo easy to play. the 65 has the sound but the frets are pretty worn so its a bit hard to play. the 64 has soo little wear and sounds amazing so that is probably my fave but i tried not to play it too much since its not mine... Very Happy

cheers!

There's a thread going over on the Mosrite forum about Fillmore (sold through Ed Roman in Las Vegas for vintage prices Laughing ) no longer owning the rights to the Mosrite name. This is opening up the market for other makers to produce Mosrite clone guitars. Kurokumo (one of the best) is back in business making Mosrites which are selling for around $1000 and are shipping direct from their factory to USA.

Ahhh, that's right, Andy. It's coming back to me now. I think it was the first time I played a Mosrite (although not an original one ;-)).

Just wanted to show off my new Mosrite, sorry for the crappy cell phone picture it was taken at while we were recording at a buddy's house.

Sancho, I might have already asked you this on Facebook. But after all of the pickup mods and such, how well does that Aria Diamond hold up as a backup for your Hallmarks and Mosrites?
