Spirit- Mechanical World. Heard it on the XM coming to work and swore it was the Doors The Unknown Soldier till I heard Randy California's sweet fuzzy riffs. Spirit, way ahead of the pack for it's time and still sounds fresh today. Like Fresh Garbage.

i've been digitizing songs from my album collection and just did spirit. i saw them back in the late 60's and man were they good.

My Outerwave CD finally arrived. Much to like. It can now go on a loop I have of Surf Americana that I run thru the stereo at night when NSSR is too inundated with heavy metal. The Big Tiki speaks the truth - These guys are the real deal.

How's this for crazy- The Coral Sitar in Space! It really gets crankin about 3 minutes in when certain death looms large and lame.

Out of the blue, from the western sky... like 9,123 great-circle miles west...
and just in time for tonight's (huh???) frost advisory Shock . 14 wonderful Christmas tunes, with Martin's signature tone treatment all over them. (I'd wager there's still a certain white '61 Strat that figures large.) Includes 3 originals from him:

Christmas in July
Christmas Stomp and
South of the Equator

Diggin' it. All of them will be great additions to the Christmas-sy loop CD I put together ever year starting about this time. Besides guitars/bass/keys from Martin are drums/percussion from Bill Kezelos. "Christmas in July" musically could stand on its own anytime. Info HERE.
Ho Ho Ho Cool

Dr. Pongracic (although this particular lecture won't make the NSSR playlist; pretty darn good though).

Interesting to compare that with Space Cossacks' version. This one seems to have a more up-front trad surf beat, and SC's closer (albeit at Mach 2) to a waltz as it was. Given its diverse attribution it's kind of a "mutt" of a song, but a lovely one.
Thanks for that; a really cool find.

Lots!!! My Double Crown order arrived. Smile

After accidentally coming across some Mustangs videos on YouTube a few weeks ago and posting them in this thread, I decided to revisit some of their stuff after many years. "Going Doing" was as great as I remembered it, just a brilliant album. But then I got quite a surprise when I pulled out "The Lost Album" of which I had no memory whatsoever, but there it was in my collection. Holy cow, this album is AMAZING!! I think it's even better than "Going Doing". It had a bit of a difficult birth as its recording was initially started by a new band formed by the Mustangs' lead guitarist Matti Luhtala, with the basic tracks recorded only by him and the Mustangs' drummer (who was also in the new band). The new band didn't last long and the tapes sat around for years before Matti brought in the rest of the Mustangs to finish it all up. The main album (not counting the bonus tracks) consists of all Matti-Luhtala-originals, and the quality of the compositions is simply astounding! The recording is great, the performances are great, the whole freakin' thing is great! I have no idea why I didn't realize that about this album when I first got it - I guess it's one of those things where my head just wasn't in the right place at that time. But for the past couple of weeks I've been spinning it over and over again, and I still can't get enough. The songs keep revealing themselves further with each listen and I can't get tired of it. HIGHLY recommended!!!

I also just ordered their DVD "Live at the Sunhouse" (the package also includes the "Live In Amsterdam" CD) and this should be a fun viewing with my dad over Christmas! (The shop where I bought the DVD, SamSam Music, also carries The Lost Album, FYI.)
