My new surf guitar, 66's:
I am overwhelmed by this guitar, I have jags and a Jazzmaster witch I love, but this one is a "piece of art", it seems that Yamaha take the better of the two fenders and and improved some parts: bridge, tremolo.
This guitar with the original frets (tiny, almost gone) is very soft to play. It has his own spirit.
I've always liked that model.
Where did you find yours?
Cheers,
Jeff

Here's mine. Played for years (and years!), but only lately have I been bit by the surf bug. Still messing with set up, strings etc......but this guitar is great! Looks cool, plays nice, sounds great!!

The person who buys it was right-handed, and change the strings. I'm left-handed, and will change the strings and must go.

Frelonvert, I dream of going to a garage/yard sale out in the middle of nowhere and finding a guitar like yours where no one knows how much it's really worth! (So I pay $100 for it!)....
Haha, not impossible! you can still find them on the US terrirory. Not in Europe thought, these were never imported. So,I will cross my fingers for you.
Those Yamahas are great, and it is less and less a secret, I am afraid.

I've been having a heck of a time finding a guitar with my ideal specs. I'd like a surf-green instrument with single-coil pick-up(s), and a hard-tail. Is that too much to ask?!

Get a Strat and make it a hard tail.

As much as I'm an offset guy, I've had the pleasure of seeing some really great bands the past year with Mosrites and I really wish I'd bought one back when they were affordable.

I would call them affordable, certainly cheaper than Jag/Jazz(save for Squier). They did get kind of expensive, but have crashed. Unless you want a Ventures model, that is.

If I get desperate enough, I may do that, but the reason I didn't just go with that to begin with is that I don't like Strats. The pick-ups are too damned close to the strings, and I end up hitting them while playing.

You're aware that you can lower the pickups, right? I keep mine super low... I find it sounds better.
