I did ask paypal to send you a message asking to autograph it for me, but I'll ask again here just in case.

Thanks for everything you do for our favorite music!

The book can now be ordered on my website, www.johnblair.us (please read ordering instructions carefully if you aren't in the U.S.). If you want the book signed, please request that when you complete the order online. Thanks everybody. Off and running (er, surfing?).

John, thanks for heads up.
Also, you are welcome to bring to the HB pier show to sell.
And if you have a good amount of them, maybe even ask the Surf Museum
If they want to carry that and the discography book too.

MooreLoud.com - A tribute to Dick Dale.

Got mine today. I've already read over half of it. Great job John! LOTS of cool photos and flyers!

Quite a haul today! It's a GOOD day! (BTW, looking through the book, I see a lot more Strats than offsets - I think John had an agenda with the photos he selected - and I approve! Twisted Evil )

What a treasure-trove this book is! Absolutely amazing. John has really given us all a huge gift here. Reading through it last night before going to sleep, I got the same feeling that I had about 20 years ago, when I first started getting into surf music - the feeling that there was something truly magical about SoCal in the early '60s, a very special period of time that is now pretty much completely vanished. It's easy to get jaded over the years and to forget what drew you to this music in the first place, but I have to say reading through the book last night made me feel that sense of wonder again and remember why I was originally attracted to this music.

The only tiny complaint I have is that I wish that there was a section for color photos. I knew some of the photos, such as the Challengers photo on the cliffs, and I'm pretty sure that was originally in color. Would have been really nice to have that and some other photos in color. But that's really a minor complaint for what in all other ways is an incredible publication!

My fave two pages: the Surfmen and the Truants mirror photos on opposite pages, showing off beautiful custom-color Strats! Whoo-whooo!

(BTW, I think I found a typo: I believe Richard Berry wrote Louie, Louie in 1965, not 1955.)

THANK YOU, JOHN!!!! YOU RULE! Worship

Thanks for the kind words, Ivan. I wanted the publisher to put color photos in this book, but the "style" for their Images of America series was b&w (the original of that Belairs' photo is also in color). And, "Louie Louie" was, indeed, written in 1955 (the Kingsmen's hit cover was in 1963):

Really? Very interesting. So, the Rhythm Rockers were playing the Harmony Park Ballroom already in '55? They were around that long before surf music began? I had no idea.

That is really an incredible collection of photos and handbills you've pulled together over the years, and we're all truly in your debt for your efforts.

Agree This is what serious historiography looks like. Many who don't even know it yet are indebted.

John, from your publisher remarks above ("Images of America") it seems this is part of a larger collection, which is kinda neat in the sense that it becomes a part of a larger historical collection & may get seen by audiences of that effort beyond the obvious surf music aficionado.

Thank you again so much. This is an awesome book!

Cheers
