hi gilette!
well... i mounted the pcb on a 300 gr brass plte, and insulated that one ... my question is rather whether that heat sink is sufficient Smile

Surfy bear... so far so good. Just have to make the face plate

Nice. What was that before it became a Surfy Bear?

The Hicadoolas

Thanks! It used to be a Seymour Duncan combo amp. I gave up repairing it after the third or fourth time. I basically cut it in half. I used the chassis so grounding it was easy. There is no noise. I think the blue tolex is sweet.

Ahhhhh.... you have the mini..
Sorry, my mistake

That pre-set mod looks really useful.

Now I didn't read back through all the thirty some odd pages of posts but has anyone tried swapping out the mix pot with a phone jack and routing the signal through a modified volume pedal (with the correct value pot sweep)? This could give you a continuously variable mix addressable through the foot pedal.

Years ago I had an Evans steel guitar amp that had both remote volume and reverb control pedals. I always thought that was a cool idea but to date, I've never fooled around with it. Steel guitar players apparently like having that control.

Best Reverbs (perfect for this thread)

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

Very Cool !!

Thanks to everyone for the kind words!

the knobs, the tolex, the back wall and the water bottles are a reverberation of the surfy bear logo!

I was intrigued with the idea of building the Fetverb in 'pedal form' and using it with my newly acquired Hot Rod Deluxe. The HRD's reverb not so good, specially when compared to a 6G15 circuit.

I'm swapping out the HRDs pan for the Accutronics 4ABC1B and will use the amp's effects loop with the pedal on top of the amp for easy reach. I wrapped the power supply's plug in red electrical tape to remind me not to use its reverse polarity on my pedal board, which I'm fully capable of doing.

Hey Bjorn, you need to fabricate a pedal-sized Surfy Bear badge Big Grin

Assembled mine on Tuesday and got it working fine. I bought the through hole pcb so I could repair and modify it if I wanted.
My plan was to put it in a metal case with a 8inch reverb pan, then have optional reverb pan connections for a longer pan. I wanted a portable device I could carry easily (and discreetly).
My initial tests with an Accutronics pan sounded good. Just trying to find some time to finish it!

Very nice!
I didnt know until now that a pedal-sized sticker was needed!

I finally got mine working 100%, as I had bad noise issues with my original power supply. I first tried a Radio Shack Enercell, as the 9V version I bought for my Moog Moogerfooger Phaser worked just fine. The Enercell 12V 1.5A was made the Surfy Bear very noisy. I switched to a 12V 2A power supply from a Western Digital My Book external hard drive, and it worked like a charm (with a polarity change of the wiring as it is center positive).

Another mistake I made was drilling the holes for the RCA jacks a little too small, so that the provided plastic insulators didn't isolate the jacks from the chassis. Be sure to size the hole for the plastic insulators. If you do, they fit nicely. I thought this was the source of the noise, but it didn't seem to affect the noise level. It was all the power supply. But Bjorn was clear about making sure the RCA jacks to the pan being isolated from the chassis.

The sound is wonderful, and very musical. I'm using the Harbor Freight toolbox to house the pan, and a small aluminum box to house the electronics. Pictures to come.
