Well one of the two showed up, it was sold as a SGV300 HSS configuration, it is the same as my other SGV800 except for the pickup configuration. HNGD to me!

Wow, you been busy collecting all these fine surfers.

Sweet SG-2! A really clean and original-looking example.

I have a friend with one of those red Jazzmaster influenced weirdos with 2.5 pickups (whatever you call that weird thing). It was put under the bed in '66 and never saw the light of day till a year ago when they gave it to him. It's stunning and sounds ok. Is it worth anything??

hey, do any of you guys know where i can get my hands on either a SGV 300 or SGV 800??

While on vacation this past week, I had a chance to catch up on the last several issues of the Guitar Player mag, and found a few things maybe of interest to SG101-ers. I think this is the thread for not only Yamaha guitars, but also amps - check out this feature on the Yamaha TA30 amp:

Cool! Thanks for this nice article. Ok, the author said the SGV guitar is not known to be a full sounding guitar? I can not understand this...
If we talk about the SGV300, this is definitely a very versatile guitar.
Whatever, the article is about the TA30 amp. I have one of those. In this video here below I played a Jag through a TA30. AND I played it with the built in reverb. On a few parts it sounds a bit thinner than usual but all in all this amp is great for small locations! Loud enough!! And if I would play it with a Reverb Tank it sounds like alltimes...
If you find one test it! Cool handy amps!

All,
The Yamaha G-100s (head and 4x12 cabinet)... this was the closest sound I could get with a Mosrite guitar to the 1965 Ventures On Stage Sound - just enough edge.

Yamaha makes a lot of low end junk; they also make some really great stuff.
Case in point - Yamaha's LORD PLAYER (not the cheaper Studio Lord)is the best Les Paul Standard copy that I've played. My fingers and amp really can't tell the difference. I never saw a need to blow many several 1,000s for on a Gibson for what could be had for around $600.00.

Old punks never die... They just become surf rockers.
