Definitely some surprises, both positive and negative - on the negative side, I'm shocked and disappointed that Aqualads' Treasures didn't make the list - that's a true masterpiece. Also, only one El Ray album?? That's a travesty against justice! But other than those two, I think the rest of the list is pretty darn good...

popularity counts for a lot. but it isn't everything and for one reason or other some great art isn't known by as many people. You know there are some really excellent albums ranked 102 to 152. Also, I wonder what would happen if everyone voted for their top 20 (remember how hard 10 was), esp if the results included both the top 101 and NEXT 101.

as for my "didn't makes," 3 Balls of Fire "Chrome and Water" or "Firepower" and The Supertones "All for a Few Perfect Waves." Los Twang! Marvels "Guitars in Orbit" and "Prueba de Fuego" no big deal since all their records are great and one made the Top 3!

oh, and Planet Seven "The Tomorrow That Never Was"!

There were some of my votes that didn't make it, (like the Tiki tones)
But I'm not butt hurt about it. I know they are a weird quirky band that some don't like, and many don't know. And some wouldn't call surf.
That being said, I am not surprised at the LSJs being on the list.
But I think they aren't amazing at all.

I usually get into HUGE arguments when I dare say that to people, but I share your thoughts on LSJ. They're excellent musicians and I like some of the not-so-obvious covers they've done (Nirvana, Celine Dion, ...) but all in all they just don't do it for me. Saw them live a couple of times and always ended up at the bar for a drink and chat with friends some 20-30 minutes into the show... Oh well, all just a matter of personal opinion and taste.

Anybody want to count how many records Pete Curry played on? Laughing

Challenge accepted!!! Three by Jon & the Nightriders, three by Los Straitjackets, and one by the Halibuts makes for a total of SEVEN! Not far behind Dusty and Dave - and of course, all three of them were in the definitive lineup of Jon & the Nightriders - what a band!

Maybe NSSR should do a favorite (NOT best) musicians poll some time. Every voter with one suggestion per category (guitarist, drummer, sax player) could work.

Los Apollos - cinematic surf music trio (Berlin)
"Postcards from the Scrapyard" Vol. 1, 2 & 3 NOW available on various platforms!
"Chaos at the Lobster Lounge" available as LP and download on Surf Cookie Records!

I rarely check these pages but a friend alerted me to this thread. I must say I am truly honored and humbled to be a part of this scene. I have enormous love and respect for all the players and instro music lovers, and of course true admiration for the bands that I have been fortunate enough to play with over the years. Congratulations to Dave Wronski for this recognition of his incredible talent.

Indeed stoked,
dusty

Good luck with the surgery Dusty, heal well and looking forward to more great shows in the spring.

Congrats to you, Dave, and all the fantastic musicians on the list.

I think a big impact on the vote was albums that are available in Europe. Double Crown has a big presence, which is well distributed, and has a lot of SG101 members.

Need a big dirigible to seed the EU mainland with some Torquays. Really thought Somewhere in California would get in there.

It was a blast firing up the laptop at oh-dark-thirty, pouring a cup of coffee, and kickin' off one kick-ass day. Still an amazingly successful accomplishment by any standard.
