Permalink My band in Korea

Hi there. I don't know if this is the right place to post, but I'd like to introduce my band to all you surf musicians.

I'm a guitarist in a three piece, based in Seoul, South Korea. Our name is Channel 7. We're a mixture of surf rock and more heavy rock influences. I've always been strongly influenced by the Spanish kind of surf sound.

Right now, we're just playing for fun, writing some originals and making our own interpretations of classic songs. But I'd love to go further with this music. I'd really like to know what you think. So please check us out. I welcome all feedback, whether it be encouragement or constructive criticism!

Here are a few songs from our last show:
Fade (original): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YSeD25vZvY
Malaguena: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vj4LjCQ9JJg

Penetration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cm4mK8kp4wY
Rumble: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mlvml3r6vk4

And here's a version of Bombora we laid down today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RbWfQ4FtBk

Thanks for checking us out, and keep up the good work! This site is really superb. Cheers.

Is that a Chapman stick for the bass?
I don't think I have ever seen anyone in surf play one of those.

How random! I joined this site not one week after someone asked if there were any surf bands in Korea. Must have been my spider sense. =)

That's not a Chapman stick, that's it's cousin the Warr Guitar. The dude with the Warr studied under Robert Fripp before coming to Korea. Yeap, definitely unconventional for a surf band ...

It's different. It's goood Cool

hey, thanks for checking out my garage band =)

Very Punk! I'm digging your original tunes... go go GO!

I've taught many nice folks from South Korea, but I've never been there. Is it harder to find good guitar stores there? Is the surfing/beach seen good? Does kimchi make you play faster?

As the proud Koreans will tell you, with enough kimchi, you can do ANYTHING....

You can get some pretty good guitars for cheap over here. I heard that Fender had some factories in Korea years ago, and when Fender left, the Koreans kept using the Fender factories to make their own brands. So you don't get as many name brands, but they're pretty good quality.

If you're looking for internatinoal fare, you're best bet is Nagwon (take a look below)... it's basically all of Seoul's music shops squashed together into one huge arcade. I can get lost in there for hours!

Fascinating! Thanks for sharing this. Do you find the equipment in generally cheaper over there? Do you see much vintage equipment?

You can get a decent quality guitar cheaper in Korea than in the West, if you're not bothered about the label. I heard that Fender used to have factories over here, and when Fender pulled out, the Koreans kept using them to produce their own brands.

Right now I'm using a 'Roxy', which is a pretty nice Strat clone.

Pedals and imports, probably vintage equipment too, is no cheaper here than back in England, where I'm from. And if you want anything exotic, you can only go to Nagwon!

Resurrecting this thread because I've found something!

Add 4 had a few instrumental records according to this site http://progressive.homestead.com/Add4.html
