- The Man from H.U.A.C. - Laika & The Cosmonauts
- Surf 49 - Los Straightjackets
- Hotspot - Los Banditos
- Chainsaw Boogie - El Rey
- Transilvanian Orbit - The Space Cossacks
- Me Jirevis - The Treble Spankers
- Fathomized - The Fathoms
- Southern Surf Syndicate Theme - The Penetrators
- Return to the ground zero - Husky And The Sandmen
- Storm Dancer - Jon and the Nightriders
I tried to select 10 track from 10 different bands that are real great in putting a nice melody together with a great and unique sound.
My alltime favorite 'surf' (and much much more) band is without a doubt Laika & The Cosmonauts. In my honest opinion, no surf band comes even close to what they achieved. Superb song writing, very creative, great and unique sound, 4 top notch musicians and still so unpretentious. I think they deserve much more attention!
Without shouting at any one, I could only wich there where a bit less surfband, and with a level more like that of L&C. I prefer quality over quantity, and sometimes when I hear new releases, I have the feeling I causes more harm to the genre than it contributes. But that's maybe for an other topic.

On the one hand, how can a genre in which it's most fervent fans have trouble deciding which songs they like best be considered in decline?
On the other, if we take 1979 (Jon & The Nightriders) as the early cutoff for the lists, the question becomes something more like 'What's your favorite songs of the last 34 years?'

Sorry folks, but there is no way I could ever come up with a top ten of this list,or the classic. I've heard too many surf/instro bands and songs to make the ultimate choice.I'am forever a open book, and resourceful when it comes to surf, and that is my final statement as to the question at hand. This music is not a contest of favorites as the pool overflows on a moments notice.

brandonio,
I get your point. I feel the same way about all music. I've never had absolute favorites, top tens, and such. I didn't pick by the whole number one is my favorite song or artist concept, in fact the order of my list means almost nothing as far as what I love the most. It's based more on what I discovered that had some sort of unique appeal to me and that list in reality is too vast to limit to a certain number.
It's fun to play anyway though.

Worth repeating: This is WAY harder than the classic top ten. In the spirit of contribution I have made a list, and while I think it's good, it has already changed a couple of times, and sure will continue to...
Always in flux these things...
- Laika & The Cosmonauts - Note Crisis
- The Fathoms - Overboard
- The Mermen - Dancing In Her Sleep
- The Bambi Molesters - Tremble & Shake
- The Barbwires - La Caja Del Muerto
- The Space Cossacks - Apes Of Wrath
- Frankie & The Pool Boys - Ewa On The Beach
- The Madeira - Sahar
- El Ray - Hynotic
- Daikaiju - Laser Runner
and as soon as I hit "Submit Reply" I am going to feel like I have betrayed SO MANY great songs! hahaha

The Best of 2013 compilation is a no-brainer decision for a donation; awesome loop to have on in the room, even wrapping Christmas packages.
