Permalink Iconic Drummer Dick Dodd Has Cancer

New Topic
Goto Page: Previous 1 2 3 4 Next

Dick is improving again. when I took him to the hospital this last time, I thought this was the end of the line. The staff at Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center have done a great job caring for him. He has started his radiation treatments and has his first chemo today. He is alert and thanks to modern pharmacology, in minimal pain. The bottom line is that he still has incurable cancer. I wish I had better news to report. If you can, please donate via www.dickdodd.com. Thank you.

Tim, I am so very deeply sorry about the prognosis. I'm glad Dick is feeling stronger. I just read your latest post on FB and I hope he feels more comfortable soon. I'm sure he loved singing with the nurses. I wish with all my heart he could get better.

The new http://www.dickdodd.com is now live.

There are a few ways to donate to Dick Dodd's cause. One, of course, is financial and the other is a story and email about one of Dicky's songs that may have influenced your surf guitar playing. You can send the story/picture or anything you can think of to dickdodd@yahoo.com.
I was assured that all the emails are printed and put into a notebook and read to Dicky every day. My story related his shows at the retail in Buena Park. What's your story?

Blessings sent. I live close to Ma. and have worked in the state for over 10 years. The Standells Dirty Water is still such a favorite song even in the western part of the state. One of the great songs that came out of my baby boomer generation.

I am very sad to say,
I just heard that Dick Dodd has past away.
Such a horrible tragedy.
My condolences to his family, friends,
And close fans.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

Such sad news. My condolences to all his friends and family.

My condolences to his family and loved ones.

Thanks for the update Jeff.

Thanks to Tim for helping Dick and your efforts. You are a saint.

I'm deeply saddened as well. As an old guy, hearing news like this really hits close to home. My thoughts and prayers go out to Dick's family.

As a kid, I remember Dick from his brief stint as a Mouseketeer on the Mickey Mouse Club TV show. Here's his bio from that era:

Truly very sad. I had high hopes that he would beat this and we'd see his smiling face behind the drums again. Just a reminder of how short life can be. But we can be happy that he touched so many of us with his music.

I was a Standells fan long before I found out he was the drummer in The Showmen. From hearing "Dirty Water" on oldies radio as a kid and being hooked, to seeing The Standells on an episode The Munsters and watching them blaze the screen in the film "Riot on Sunset Strip", it's no surprise I became a huge fan like so many others did.

And then I find he was the drummer of the mighty Eddie and the Showmen! Wow, an amazing resume and life. If there's that mythical place were people go after they pass this life, I truly hope he's jamming Squad Car with Eddie right now. RIP, Dick Dodd.

Jamming with Eddie indeed.
We're very lucky for the legacy of music Dick left behind.
