You're welcome, Jeff. It's been my pleasure. After all, everyone here shares so much of your own musical experiences. And you all have been an inspiration to me since I was just a lurker here, before I joined.
Yes, I lurked here a while before I got up the nerve to join. If anyone reading this isn't a member, please join. It changes everything.
I think we'll call ourselves The Improbables just for Oct 12. It really seems to fit. What say you all?

Just finished cleaning up after a 3-hour rehearsal. So this is what all the fuss is about. That was AMAZING! Together, we rearranged Lawrence of Arabia into a wild jazz-fusion-funk number that sounds unbelievably terrific. I didn't see that coming. Too much! And somehow, oddly, in keeping with the spirit of The Ventures original dance version. It has groove and funk like I never thought I'd be playing.
My elaborate pedal chain is now simply the BOSS Space Echo and the on-board Boost, Tremolo and Reverb from the amazing MicroPro-200. Too cool.
Random pairs practice this week and one more full dress rehearsal next Sunday evening. I've gone from trepidation to anticipation in three hours!

noel. i know everyone is different, but for me the best moment in playing music with others is when it all comes together and you realize how good it sounds.

Noel, that's a seriously nice music room! I'd never get away with practicing in my house- first scratch on the wood floors and my wife would lose it.

Hahaha. There are scratches and scrapes all over that floor. It has a lot of character!

Been practicing my own parts for next Saturday, alone today. Worked with Steve this past Tuesday and Thursday going over his parts. We're sounding pretty good. Final full-dress rehearsal tomorrow evening from 7 PM until when we're satisfied we're playing all 8 songs as good as possible. Aiming for 2 complete performances without any noticeable problems.
This coming week, the same as last week, except by this time (3:15) on Saturday, we'll be listening to some other bands play while we relax and get ready to go on, probably at 4:45 to 5:15. (Sorry Jonpaul; I'll miss your show.)
We're able to practice at or near performance volume, which I think is helping the rank beginners (like me) a lot.

Noel, there will be video, yes?
The whole thing is video recorded. It takes some time to get the DVDs out, so it may be a while until I have anything to show. I may try to find someone to record just our set with my own video camera. I'll post something as soon as I can.

And one more shout-out and thank you to Will (Staredge) of The Hula Dragons and Dick Bascom (drumsdick) of The Aquatudes for kindly and generously offering to help.

Thanks! I'll even try to remember to breathe.
This is a no-pressure performance. Bob Spalding stage right about 15 feet. Am I playing any of his parts in anything? Most of the audience knows every note of every version of every Ventures recording ever made, even the recorded live performances (this is possibly only a small exaggeration). We've endeavored to make our last four songs (the Beatles' songs The Ventures recorded - here - as close to the recordings as possible. We don't sound as good as in the video, but we're trying to. It's a little too fast for me, though. Even they play the new version slower, and Don doesn't play "my" rhythm part like that on the new record. Whew!
I've never done anything like this before, at all. But no matter what happens, I'm gonna have a great time. If we wreck, I'll just fall down laughing. I expect, though, we'll do just fine.
Put another way, I am entirely among friends. That means a lot.

I consider that a great compliment, Carol. Thank you. I wish you could, too. Are you still planning to join me at next year's Instro Summit to play Phantom Mustang by The Intoxicators, along with Mike Rosado? I'm really looking forward to that.
It would be wonderful if there were people around here who love this music as much as you do.

Well, a major problem surfaced last night. As of now, we are not ready. I'll discuss it with my guitar teacher this evening, and we'll see if anything can be done about it. We have four days and no possibility of another full dress rehearsal.

UPDATE: I'm leaving shortly for my lesson, to discuss last night, this week and Saturday's performance. I'll let you know what happens.

Everything's A-OK! Whew! Of course, we won't play our first complete set until we go on, live, on Saturday. Hey, what could go wrong?
