Norm, now that the Fender icon case has been put to bed, how about's tackling another mystery?

There's this gal, Amelia Earhart, see, and....

More cowbell?? Nah...More Reverb!!

Amazing, Randy and Norm! Boss Sherlocks.

Kudos to Scott too for posing the question and starting the thread.

Who?

I like the "of course it's fake" > "guy getting ready to for shoot" transition. I wonder if the guitar has survived and who has it now if it has.

This would be a great opportunity to do that reshoot:

Jon didn't surf with his Jaguar, but yesterday Randy Nuaert (The Challengers) did film an "... on camera interview for an upcoming Fender book about those times and the original fender ad campaign, what it was like that day and the relationships with Leo and us, and music."

He'll edit out the personal content from their 50-year friendship and make the rest available for everyone who's interested to enjoy.

Randy and Jon, yesterday. I'll add a better photograph of Jon in a little while. This photograph is by Mike Salisbury.

Thanks for the word, Noel! I believe 'The Case Of The Mystery Surfer' is finally and officially closed.
Hopefully Fender will take care of him for using his image/likeness. Seventyfive bucks for a snow globe? Oh man....

Now if we could just get Randy on this site to talk some story and give tips on playing Surf Bass!!!!

Here's some more about Jon Martin and the iconic Fender ad. This is all from Randy Nauert's Facebook page and he's given me permission to share it with everyone here.

Ernesto & Stefan document the story behind the making of ad genius Robert Perine's famous “You Won't Part With Yours Either” Fender ad from the 1960s. Randy and Jon enjoy reminiscing about that day when Jon paddled out to ride this wave. (Anacapa Island in the background) Photo by Carol Martin.

I'll share the video as soon as I can.
