Permalink Review of Crazy Aces New CD, record.

This was just released on wednesday in our local entertainment paper.

"Naming your debut album Greatest Hits Volume 2 takes a lot of gumption, a wry sense of humor or perhaps access to a wrinkle in the space-time continuum. And Crazy Aces’ inaugural effort — a blend of superb musicianship, a little kitsch and dead-on ’60s guitar tones — would seem to indicate they have all three. Guitarists Jeff Senn and Sam Hawksley, bassist Justin “Oscar” Cary and drummer Tom Hoey have a combined résumé that includes work with Trisha Yearwood, Olivia Newton-John, Counting Crows, Wynonna Judd and Paul Brandt. When they’re not at their regular gigs, they indulge their mutual love for vintage surf music and other instrumental styles of the ’60s. GHV2 features all original material by Senn (a ridiculously good player, not to mention one of Nashville’s top guitar builders), and it expands beyond the typical surf-band territory to include spaghetti-Western motifs (“Eastwood Outlaw”), Austin Powers-worthy mod sounds (“Attention Shoppers”) and psychedelia (“Hippy Trip” and “Numb One”). But fear not, surf purists — there’s plenty for you: “Invasion of Malibu,” “Boogie Bored” and “Arigato Terauchi,” a tribute to eleki (Japanese surf music) legend Takeshi Terauchi. But the standout may be “The Last Song,” a gorgeous, haunting melody in the vein of Santo & Johnny’s “Sleepwalk.”

Thanks whistledixie!
There is more video from the studio but a lot of it is quite boring, LOL
with some very similar shots since we were doing the shoot ourselves while recording.
We have some recent live footage we'll put on youtube soon and we'll have a couple fun music videos out this fall, eventually.
Thanks for sharing "Bangers"

Just got my copy yesterday. Excellent release! It sounds great, and I'm really digging the variety. So far, "The Last Song" is my favorite track, but I'm a sucker for sweet and mellow. Smile Can't wait to get to know it better. Nice work!

Thanks ravcon.
We really appreciate you picking up a copy.
Still digging and digging into The Traveler.
An interesting note about "The Last Song": it morphed in the studio from it's original arrangement. The preproduction version/demo was even softer, more Shadows-like in nature with less rhythm accompaniment. My ears are still coming around to the CD version.
