Has anyone bought one of the cheaper jazzmasters to modify? I'm about to start on my M3 pickup project and haven't made a decision about where to start. I looked at Warmoth, Squier, Xaviere, Rondo and the Fender Jagmaster as a start. Does anyone have some advice?

Here's a start.

though I own 4 guitars from guitar fetish, I'd have to say go with the Squier jazzmaster.
my experience with GF guitars is they need quite a bit of fret work and total setup.
ya can't get closer to a real jazzmaster than the squier and the price isn't that bad.

Check out guitar mill as well if you want to "start from scratch"
