Mike Love interview in Rolling Stone
http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/exclusive-mike-love-talks-beach-boys-50th-anniversary-tour-20111219

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Awesome. Thanks for posting, Noel. My favorite parts of the interview...

It's amazing David Marks is going to be there.
Yeah! David rocks. A phenomenal guitarist. When he does those leads on "Surfin'," "Surfin' Safari" and "Fun, Fun, Fun," it's so authentic. He and Carl committed on playing guitar since they were 10 years old and we neighbors with each other from across the street in Hawthorne. He's a fantastic musician and a really fantastic guy to be with.

What will the backing band look like?
Brian Wilson has an incredible band. We're using most of his band.

I assume the band will be playing outdoor amphitheaters in the U.S.?
I'm hoping that we'll do places associated with summer. We're open to doing whatever makes sense, whoever wants us.

I hope they do a film of the tour. It seems like such a no-brainer.

I don't know if anybody has stopped to think what the marketing budget will be like for this project in 2012. Not to mention the editorial marketing of being on the Grammy's etc.

I expect it will be a very good year for Surf Music and this will be a huge catalyst for us.

Everybody start singing, Beach songs.
Time to cash in.

Adult Contemporary sound? Kokomo? Cocktail? Full House? That stuff isn't all that bad. They never were a bunch of hipsters. They were adopted by hipsters. Hipsters have no say in the muse they follow. Thats self conscious indie rock pretentious rules you have to follow. Not them. Their generation knows no shame! Kokomo might not be the hippest song I ever heard but it's a lot catchier and in most cases better than most indie rock records. I can play it at any party I have unlike any shoegaze or grindcore records I have. Let the baby boomers do what they feel. They danced in mud naked on camera in the sixties and show no shame. It's what they are good at. You should learn to accept them for what they are and always will be. Shameless children that live in the moment. It worked out well for them didn't it?

Bump.

Reminder. The 54th Grammy's are tonight, The Beach Boys are still scheduled to perform last I saw.

There are a couple good ones on there, the rest aren't terribly great. The minimal/orchestral tracks are the better ones. The full band tracks just don't do it for me.

Watched it tonight. I actually thought these modern bands that I don't really have any interest in did a fitting tribute to these legends. Great to see David Marks finally on stage with them and Brian again. Dave must have been stoked. Beach Boys rule! The Wondermints did a nice job backing them up. Can't wait to see them when they come to town.

I caught it too, Norm. I agree with you - granted if given a choice, I'd have rather seen just the Beach Boys do a medley - the other two bands were better than I was expecting. I appreciate that they didn't try to do some sort of mash up with one of their songs or their own modern spin on the BB's songs they played.
