Permalink Surfer Joe's Diner Opening Soon, Italy, 2012

New Topic

I'm sure some of us saw this on the front page news submissions.
But this to me is Huge news, and I wanted to post it here also, to make sure more knew about it.

As announced at the SG101 Convention this summer, Surfer Joe will open a bar & diner in Livorno, Italy, dedicated to surf music and fun. The location is on the sea, Terrazza Mascagni for those of you who had the opportunity to come to Livorno before and have visited the town. We have been working extremely hard for more than 6 months to get this location that we consider very cool and unique.

The opening will be on December 2011, we still have to define the date based on the works to do and the planning. Every saturday we will have surf bands from all over and on other days (1 or 2 per week) more music into the beat, garage, rock 'n' roll, rockabilly, blues genres.

We really believe into this project which is taking us lots of money and devotion, but we are sure to do a good thing!

The internal stage will be decent size (approx 20 ft.) and will be provided of complete backline (including a Hammond Organ) in collaboration with Fender, SWR & Mackie. This will help all touring bands and make it easy and cheaper to come down to the club. Surfer Joe's booking job will be increased in order to be able to organize complete tours for foreign bands and support the shows at the Surfer Joe's diner.

For the moment we cannot say much more. The next Summer Festival on June will be at the diner as the stage can be placed directly on Terrazza Mascagni, a fantastic location that can keep up thousands of people... all restaurants and bars services will come from the diner itself and the exhibition area will be on the second floor of the building, overlooking the sea.

Hope to see you soon!

Unreal! Maybe it can be a franchise like the Hard Rock. "Oooh, I got a Surfer Joe Bar New York T-shirt!" (or maybe I just need to go to Italy.. . )

I'd love for there to be the same type of thing here in So. Cal.
I just think that now is the wrong time to be trying to open something like this with the economy being so Grim.
and Even surf fans being so so about going to shows.

I give big props to Lorenzo for making a go of it,
and trying to do it right, and Big!!!!!

congrats Lorenzo, and good luck my friend.

Smile I'd like... but taking look at my bank account, I swear it is totally real.

It is always the "wrong" time. Do you remember a time that was "right" to open a business? But without investments it would be even worst.
Surf fans: they are 1 drop in an ocean. Most people like surf shows, maybe they are not like us completely crazy about surf music, but the potential is always good (this IS the purpose of the Brave New Surf comp). The last tour I have done on september with the Kilaueas in Germany was impressive for the amount of young guys coming ot the surf shows. And the North Sea Surf Fest? Looking at the photos I have seen of the Rendezvous Ballroom I can tell it was the same, at least the same atmosphere. So, I hardly think there is potential. Making money on it? Impossible with just surf music. Fun? It's all about this! Then, what is "commercial", "pop", or "obscure" is only a point of view. We need to convert more people to the dark side of the "surf" Smile festivals, venues, gigs, records... all helps to keep the summer alive.

So in the end, I have to convince Jeff BTD to come for a record hop when I'm ready Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

A few updates.

Luca is convinced we will be able to open on the beginning on February. Although I do not share the same optimistic vision Smile we are very close!
The schedule of events and concerts is tight throughout the year, I really hope that I will be able to carry it on as planned.

I will keep everyone posted. I really wish to see you all around here one day soon. And by the way we have already started the Surfer Joe Summer Festival's organization. In a months everything should be out.
