Rev,
I LOVE that you chimed in with a seemingly "simple"
song.
It's been proven time and time again that what appears
to be simple or easy is usually the most difficult.
Yeah, to most it's basically just 3 chords, but
woowa-weewa, it's sooooo much more!!!! I've rarely
heard anyone play this well live, and you are
especially right-on with that bass line!!! Sounds soooo
simple, yet hardly anyone gets it like it is on the
original recording.
The ubiquitous Jack The Ripper is the same
thing....how many times have you heard guitarists come
in at the wrong place and the whole thing turns into a
different song?
And, you mentioned FEEL! Yes, yes, yes!!!
The notes might be 100% correct, but if there's no
energy, emotion or feel, what's the point?
Again, how many times have we all heard the same old
standards completely destroyed by old guys in bad
Hawaiian shirts (which, by the way, from now on, I'm
referring to as OGIBHS), because of a complete lack
of emotional connection.
All flash and no depth makes for an extremely miserable
musical experience, IMHO.

You're just hung-over...Maybe thats me? Well, Let's try again tonight shall we?

Good guess, but it's older than that.

From Wikipedia
Writer(s) Ervin T. Rouse

The fiddle tune "Orange Blossom Special", about the passenger train of the same name, was written by Ervin T. Rouse (1917-1981) in 1938. The original recording was created by Ervin and Gordon Rouse in 1939. It is considered the best known fiddle tune of the twentieth century. It has been referred to as "the fiddle player's national anthem".

Several others have claimed authorship, but Rouse copytighted the tune in 1938.

Here's an interesting story about the song. It was once banned from the stage of the Philadelphia Folk Festival because of how often artists would perform it.

hello Cartablanca,

Would Flight of the Surf Guitar (Martin Cilia) qualify as hard?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7piZDR2EP6E&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL

I think it is a fun song to play.

To Casey: Change keyes, add little fills and speed up Hawaii 5-0? Sounds like Martin Cilia's version.

As you can see I have been on a Martin Cilia kick lately.

Talk to you later,
Norm
