I'm a long time Surf fan. I will forever be in search of the ultimate comp. Glad I stumbled onto this place to, hopefully, get a better knowledge of Surf. I'm also one of those former Metal guys that finds the technique and skills I earned as a teen are beneficial playing Surf. Any love for Agent Orange and their Surf contributions here? Also, is there a Peavey amp that is good for Surf?

Welcome, Ranbat! As far as Peavey amps go, I personally think the early Classic 2/12 combo is a good amp, but the reverb on it stinks.

Welcome!
There aren't too many places where you can benefit from the knowledge and experience of so many active surf musicians. If surf is what you want to dive into, this is THE place.
You can browse old forums for hours and hours. There are countless threads on picks, guitars, amps, you name it.
Enjoy!

Welcome to the forum Ranbat. There's a large wing of surf guitarists who cut their teeth on metal.
I know of a certain comp due out this Christmas that is going to be incredible. Disclaimer - My band is on it but discounting my band, it is the perfect collection of most of the top current surf bands putting out original music. Stay tuned for more as it's release gets closer.

Welcome to SG101, this is the place to learn everything about Surf Music you could ever want to know and then some.
It's the only music forum I know of where the legends that made and are making the history of the music answer your questions.

Indeed, this is incredible. To have a chance to meddle in the same waters with the genre giants... We're so lucky.
Just an example to illustrate the point - Ivan (Madeira) latest studio report.
Thank you Brian and all, this site is the best thing on the internet.

Thanks to all that have popped in to comment. I was hoping this wasn't one of those dead boards of some former glory. I'm looking to start my first dedicated instrumental Surf band. I've slipped Surf in with other bands I've played with over the years and I'm hoping to bring some of what I played before to Surf. After a couple decades of loud overdriven tube heads and 4-12 cabs, a clean reverb drenched 2-12 combo is a beautiful sound.

This forum is still fairly active. What's been said is true; this is the place for what you want. There's been a lot covered here over the years, so chances are good that pretty extensive threads already exist on any given topic.
