i wish, ive been a nomad all week because ive been getting my house worked on and todays my first day home so im probably going to be cleaning all night.
i have been wanting to get out and see some shows though

So, I was at a Marty Stuart concert (my wife is a big fan) and they did La Tingo Tango. This isn't my video clip.

After our guitar lessons last night we went to Steak N Shake for burgers. Usually they have Ricky Nelson playing, which I always sing along to, but last night we got Pipeline!!

I'm a major fan too, Noel. That boy can flat-ass PICK! BTW, the Tele he's playing originally belonged to the late, great Clarence White of The Byrds (think "Sweethearts of the Rodeo", not "Mr. Tambourine Man")and The Kentucky Colonels. It contains the first Parson's/White Stringbender made.

Thanks for sharing that. It's a facinating piece of music history. The show was great, but this was the only surf-instro tune they played. And, what is it about guitar players named Vaughan, anyway. Kenny is extraordinary. This video clip doesn't show just how hot he can play.

Once in a while I'll hear "Pipeline" or "Walk Don't Run" in Walgreens. Yesterday I heard "Moment of Truth" at Walgreens, and they're still tryin' to scrape me off the floor! A standard to surf afficienados, but not something I've ever heard outside of surf circles.

A few recent sightings...er, uh, hearings "in the wild" recently:
To corroborate Jeremy's report, Pawn Stars definitely makes use of quite a bit of twangy instrumental music.
Another show that consistently utilizes twangy guitar instrumentals is Storage Wars. It's not "surf" as we know it, per se, but more Spaghetti Western--good stuff, actually. Quite a bit better than the usual run-of-the-mill music library material.
Funny enough, the other night I caught a TV commercial for a sub chain called "Jersey Mike's" promoting their "Jersey Shore Vibe" with a new "Catch a Wave" campaign. Sure enough, guess what the music is? I'm always torn when this sort of thing happens--I'm stoked that the surf genre is getting the attention, but bummed that they didn't use a track by or commissioned from someone in-the-know aka "in the family." On the way to work this morning, I heard a radio commercial for Black Angus Steakhouse with a full-on Spaghetti Western background track. I tried to find it somewhere on the web, but no dice.

I've been hearing a lot of instro/surf/spaghetti in TV shows too,
I think it might have been those storage/pickers shows, but not sure.
and I saw that Jersey Mikes commercial too, I was like whoa whoa whoa,
rewind, turn up the volume, and then, ugh, so studio guys sounding.
but still a bit of a rush.

I heard "Ewa on the Beach" on one of the national morning shows a few weeks back.
That was definitely unexpected, as it was a piece about consumerism and companies essentially "endorsing" families and outfitting them with all the newest clothes and tech items to influence their friends into buying all the same stuff.
It was essentially a real life version of that David Duchovny movie.

My local Walgreens also plays quite a bit of surf. Recently I heard "Cat on a Hot Foam Board" there and was just blown away!

Watching Bloomberg as I do every morning, I hear surf (spy) for an entire new 30-second Powershares commercial with no voice over. As often as surf is used commercially to exemplify "cool", you would think it is the most popular music in the world.
