I arrived about 2:15 with my son COLIN with me...I got into Hermosa about Noon to visit him. Surprise he went with me to Suzys...He is into other music but wanted to be with dad....We got to see Martys surprised face, my son recognized him from when we saw Dick Dale at Gene Autrys Griffith Park gigs a few years ago...Marty had a distinct BOUNCER look doesnt he...I introduced myself to him and my son and wished him a happy birthday...Dave started the party of with a rippin MISERLOU (Hey Marty...My favorite tune too...and I got 10 years on ya..lol)....John Blair and Marty Tippens did there set and we stayed for a little longer but Colins girlfriend had dinner ready for us and we had to leave...I came back later and watched the Surf Kings set...then my old age and my bedtime hit me and I went back to my sons apartment and went to bed...it was so nice to see a great crowd....I didnt know to many people by sight, but saw Jeff, John, Marty, and Dave to see hello....lots of love in that room...I think on my 50th...I went to Dennys with my wife...lol...just kidding...I actually dont remember my 50th...can you say dementia....HAPPY BIRTHDAY AGAIN MARTY....DUKE

Hey Jeff ...Dave (Wronski ) and I had a great time despite the equipment failures. Had to leave early , had a long drive so we didn't get any of that "Bassman" B-day cake . Great party , Marty was stoked ! You guys had it goin on. It was kinda weird playing the Slack stuff without Dusty. Once again a great time at the beach. Thanks for having us ... Steve

Duke,
I understand why you had to go and come back and leave again, Family always comes first.
, but I really wish you could have stayed for the whole thing, you would have been in Reverb Heaven, and would have freaked out with Marty over all the Misirlous that day.
Steve,
Thanks again for playing with Dave on such short notice.
I really wanted slacktone (proper-i.e. with dusty) to play. But I totally understood that he had to hit the road with Agent Orange to make a living. Your a great bass player man, good job., good to see ya again.

Ventura calling,
Hi Jeff BTD,
This is Stormtiger A.K.A. Doug Paulin from Ventura. I guess I am Slacktone's "official" artist, I did the art on their home page, LIVE IN BERLIN CD, and T-shirts. Thanks to you and Tiki Tena for throwing such a cool shindig, I took some photos that I will upload when I have a chance, got a cool one of you with John Blair and Dave Wronski. About the hardest thing I've ever done was leaving Suzy's early while Dave Wronski was playing and knowing I would be missing a night to remember.

I really need to put in a word(s) for Outer Wave. Despite the fact
that they hadn't played since last October, they did a spectacular job
of giving us the true traditional sound of SURF MUSIC. I heard all
kinds of comments about how true their sound was. Rob Woolsey told
me that they just NAILED the true sound. That's quite a complement
for this young band. These guys are in my top 5 list of not to be missed
performances of current bands. Great Job Guys!!

Rich,
You are so right! Not to take anything away from the other bands, they were all fantastic. Surf Kings version of Depth Charge was off the Richter Scale. The Detonators we also absolutely on. When Wronski joined them for Miserlou, that was one of those rare moments in time. The Eliminators gave their usual epic performance. El Burracho was insane. If only we had some mexican trumpets. But Outerwave, there is something truely special about their sound. The have that classic 60's sound and along with their selection of songs are a true pleaseure to listen too. I was fortunate enough to hang with members of several bands who had never seen Outerwave before. They were all hooked on them from the opening chord. Many many positive comments about Outerwave. Really nice guys too. BTD & TT, you did a great job puttnig this together. ALL the performers were very generous in donationg their performances.

Damn, I wish I could have been there, but family obligations kept me from making the trek down.
Looks like one HELL of a party!

Great party and great job to all involved in planning, and to Suzy's for their continued support of Surf.
One thing I didn't see mentioned was Glasgow Tiki Shakers opening their set with The Beatles "Birthday"... I thought that was pretty cool!
Also, great meeting Guy from Ohio and Bob from Idaho. I think they brought the freezing weather with them. They can take it back now!!!
A very fun night!! Jim Copeland cracks me up!! And it was an honor talking to John Blair for a few minutes.
Thanks again BTD / TT!! And Happy BD BM (Baja Marty).

Hey Everybody,
please let it be known that Billy from the Detonators was the one that called Suzy's and booked the show there, as he knows Suzy and her sister,
plus he got there early at 12:30 to crack the whip and make sure everything was ready, when I got there at 3 pm.
Plus My Mom, and Linda and John Miller, Susan G. and her guy friend, Jim Copeland, Rich and Marilyn, and I'm sure a few others I'm blanking out on.
and One more time, A HUGE THANK YOU to KRISTENA aka Tiki Tina,
for making the showman, and reverb tank cakes.
it took her days to bake all the cakes, and 7 plus hours decorating them on Fri. night.
