This one hasn't been mentioned yet, The Changeling scared the crap out of me when it came out: These two were already mentioned. I still think about the Blair Witch Project every time I go camping: Buy Speed of Dark @ Bandcamp |

Many great suggestions in here! The Changeling is another personal favorite!! Heres a few more spooky faves
I thought Id feature older films that are super atmospheric and creepy. BLACK SUNDAY. Mario Bavas debut gothic horror film that both kicked off the gothic horror resurgence in the early 60s, and horror goddess Barbara Steeles career. In glorious fog-filled B&W!! BLACK SABBATH. Also from Italian Horror Master Mario Bava. I prefer the US cut which is hard to find. 3 stories hosted by Boris Karloff. The Drop of Water episode is one of the creepiest things ever filmed. HORROR HOTEL. This film has enough fog-filled scenes in it to choke a horse, plus spooky graveyards, witch burnings and Christopher Lee. Nuff Said? THE TERROR. Roger Corman shot this film in 4 days? Thats what they say! Tons of atmosphere and great eerie soundtrack by Les Baxter and Ronald Stein. —BOSS FINK "R.P.M." available now from DOUBLE CROWN RECORDS! |

Me too! I was 9 when it was on. Scared the holy hell out of me, in fact, it was probably the last time I was really scared at a movie. I really like the original 30's and 40's "Universal Pictures" horror pictures, you know, Wolfman, Dracula, Frankenstein. Not scary by today's standards, but great fun to watch. The original Karloff monster in "Frankenstein" is probably my favorite monster of all time. —"You can't tell where you're going if you don't know where you've been" |

Yes, Salem's Lot! The kid floating outside the window still creeps me out! Love the Universal Horrors too! —BOSS FINK "R.P.M." available now from DOUBLE CROWN RECORDS! |

Speaking of SALEM'S LOT... Do you remember these other Made-for-TV fright flicks? They scared the hell out of me when I was a kid... DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK. A lady moves into an old house that has weird little creatures that live in a boarded-up fireplace. Yikes! Scary stuff when you're a kid. Watched it recently. It still holds up. GARGOYLES. Gargoyles take over a small desert town. Great creature FX for the time!! TRILOGY OF TERROR. Karen Black fends off a scary little Tiki doll with a knife!! More stuff to give kids nightmares. Saw them all when they aired! Fun stuff! —BOSS FINK "R.P.M." available now from DOUBLE CROWN RECORDS! |

Yeah, Norm nailed it on the made for t.v. movies. I remember Trilogy and Don't Be Afraid of the Dark very well! Stuff that scares you as a kid seems to be what stays with you. For me it was the b&w original "House on Haunted Hill". For years, my brothers tormented me with shouts of "witch in the closet!" if I were so unfortunate to have to be the one to turn out the lights. Last edited: Oct 21, 2009 00:15:10 |

I can't tell you how many times I've thought of that movie and told people about it but couldn't remember what it was called. Watched it on Chiller Thriller when I was a kid and had nightmares for days after. Couldn't tell my partents because otherwise they wouldn't let me watch again next week! Thanks for that one Norm. —https://www.facebook.com/index.php?lh=9353f9155b5ff32e14c998495fd00da4&#!/rich.derksen.7 |

That's awesome. That witch scene is great! Me and my brother and sisters used to try to freak each other out in similar ways when these ran on late night TV when we were kids. Love the original House on Haunted Hill and the original 13 Ghosts. William Castle at his best. —BOSS FINK "R.P.M." available now from DOUBLE CROWN RECORDS! |

You're welcome! That one was the biggie when we were kids. Probably the scariest of the made for TV stuff in the 70's. —BOSS FINK "R.P.M." available now from DOUBLE CROWN RECORDS! |

Yeah, great opening scene and movie. Four Flies On Grey Velvet was the third and last movie in the Argento/Morricone giallo trilogy. The other two were The Bird With The Crystal Plumage and The Cat O'Nine Tails, both very good as well. — |

My favorite is The Shining...so much so that I created a website for it years ago. It originally was centered around the musical score but covers other aspects. I met Gordon Stainforth, who was the music editor and assistant editor, and he provided lots of cool inside info. And I know, it hasn't been updated in ages. I'm going to echo a lot of the movies already posted: The Changeling. I had soooo many nightmares from the is movie. The GOD DAMN girl in the bathtub....ugh. The Shining is just so well done; the haunting image of the girls, that weird scene with the bear-blowjob thing. The Ring is the newest movie that really got stuck in my brain. I had trouble sleeping after seeing that one. —Science friction burns my fingers. |
